Athletic Association-NCR a.k.a. SCUAA-NCR.

This year, “Iskolars ng Bayan” celebrates the 23rd Anniversary of the widest and much-
awaited Sports Event for State Colleges and Universities, the State Colleges and Universities
Athletic Association-NCR a.k.a. SCUAANCR. Every Year, Seven State Colleges and Universities in
NCR including, Polytechnic University of the Philippines (PUP), Philippine Normal University
(PNU), Rizal Technological University (RTU), Technological University of the Philippines (TUP),
EARIST State College, Marikina Polytechnic College (MCU), Philippine State College of
Aeronautics (PhilSca) competes over themselves to win each Sport categories incorporated in
SCUAA. Basketball, Volleyball, Cheerleading Competition, Chess and Field Demonstration are
just some of the Sport categories.

The Polytechnic University of the Philippines was decided to be this year’s host of the
said event. For the record, this is not the first time that PUP hosted SCUAA, and every time they
host this event, it uplift more their players to clutch the victory. The 23 rd annual celebration
opened at the Open Court and Football field of PUP on 24th of January, 2011. It started along
with the Field Demonstration of every School, which is also said as one of the most anticipated
competition in this event. On that day, rain falls as if it’ll never ends, all-through the day rain
pours which cause the students who went there not to continue to watch and just go home
instead. But I, myself didn’t get destructed by that, cause I have waited for this, and this is my
first time to attend SCUAA. I expected a lot of amusement from this event so nothing can
devastate me with that. Anyways, even though some of the students went home, in somehow,
there are still tenacious students who stay and wait for the event. Most part of the School are
wet, so, many of them get inside the main campus to dry themselves. It is over-crowded inside
the building. And on the other hand, outside the campus there are few who’re really excited to
watch the opening ceremony.
About 3pm that day, the opening program gets started. Everyone in the field attentively
listened to the speech declared by the authorized people including the Presidents and Deans
that represent their schools. Each of them proclaimed about the evolution of the SCUAA, they
introduce their school that made their students cheer up, and lastly, they thank everyone there
who supported the said event and Welcome the entire Sport fest. After PUP’s President, Dr.
Guevarra’s speech, the Field Demo continued to start the competition. In this part of the event,
every school shows their creativity and techniques to amaze the audience, wherein many
students arranged in positions with precise movements. For this year, the PhilSca kick off as the
first contender, for me, they showed a good performance but nothing compares with the
champion, Philippine Normal University (PNU) which said to be the genuine winner from RTU’s
Victory last year. But the PUP can’t be tamed, they showed a very good performance with an
entertaining touch that made them I mean US, to the runner-up position, and I’m very glad for
that.
