Reflection Paper

The document summarizes the Marxist perspective presented in the song "Tatsulok" by the band Bamboo. It uses the triangle ("tatsulok" in Tagalog) as a metaphor for the social class model proposed by Karl Marx, with the elites at the top ruling over the masses at the bottom. The song criticizes the harsh treatment of the Philippine people by the ruling elites and calls for change to the status quo. As long as the elites remain in power at the top of the triangle, social and economic problems will continue according to the Marxist view expressed in the song.

Basing from the title, you already know that it is about the Marxist perspective.

The
song is about the current status of the Philippines basing it from the people’s social
status or class. Tatsulok is triangle in English, which is the model the Karl Marx used to
make us understand the social classes in a capitalist world.
By just listening to the entire song, you know what is already the objective of the song,
which is to let the Philippine government know how the people react towards the harsh
treatment of the elites. The part of the song that hit my attention was the part that
Bamboo stated. Hindi pula’t dilaw tunay na magkalaban ang kulay at tatak ay di syang
dahilan hangga’t marami ang lugmok sa kahirapan At ang hustisya ay para lang sa
mayaman.” It simply means that it has been the elites who has been ruling the
Philippines for a long time and that is why changes for the mass never occurred because
the change is only for the elites.
In the end of the song, Bamboo stated; “Habang may tatsulok at sila ang nasa tuktok,
Hindi matatapos itong gulo.”“ It simply means that as long as the elites are ruling, the
continuous problems will go on until the status quo changes. In short, it is about the
Marxist perspective that says that equality will only happen if capitalism will be stopped.
