OZONE DISCO CLUB FIRE
The worst fire in the Philippines was the Ozone Disco club Fire. Happened shortly before
midnight at 11:35 pm, March 18, 1996, The Fire was started with a spark at the DJ Booth. Some
people initially thought it was just special effects but soon after the fire grew, it was too late. Smoke
begin to accumulate because of the interior materials which is flammable. The lack of fire exits,
signs, and working fire extinguishers is also a factor. One main reason of the many casualties was
also the design of the main door. When the people realized the large fire, they hurried through the
main door. The harder they tried pushing the more it wouldn’t open. The door’s design was set that
it can only be opened inwards by means of pulling rather than pushing. Pile of charred dead bodies
were seen near the doorway. The Total number of casualties was 162 lives. The owners was charged
with “reckless imprudence resulting in multiple homicide and multiple serious injuries”.
