Whisper: by Caroline Hegwer For The Noble Thread

This document provides instructions for knitting Whisper, a light capelet made from hemp and cotton yarn. It is worked in one piece starting with a circular cast on and stockinette stitch in the round. Eyelet patterns are added by knitting into markers separated by yarn overs. Different needle sizes are used to shape the capelet. Gaps are created by knitting back and forth, then joined together by working yarnovers and decreases into the gaps when switching back to circular knitting. Blocking shapes the capelet to drape like a manta ray.

rustle of the grasses on the
dunes of Wrightsville Beach.
Whisper is a light, translucent
capelet that hugs you at the
shoulders, and drapes in flowy
waves around your body. Knit
in one piece, the shape is
achieved by eyelet increases,

Still with US 11:

Remove beginning marker, k3, pm. This is your new beginning marker. You will not be knitting in
the round for this section, you will be knitting back and forth.

Row 1: k51(56), turn.

Row 2: Sl1wyb, purl back to marker, sm, p50(55), turn.

Row 3: sl1wyf, knit till 5 sts before last turn, then turn.

Row 4: sl1wyb, purl till 5 sts before last turn, then turn.

Repeat the last 2 rows until you have 7 gaps ( the gaps are located where you turned, placing markers
at each turn might help you see the gaps) on each side.

After the last turn, on return knit, start knitting in the round again. As you reach each of the first,
immediate seven gaps, yo over the gap, then k2tog. Knit until you reach the second set of gaps and
as you come to each gap, ssk the last 2 sts before each gap, then yo.

Continue in st st for 6 more rounds. BO loosely switching to a larger needle if necessary. Weave in
ends. Block aggressively using T pins. Your work should look like a manta ray while it is blocking.
