Sniper Guide BLACK OPS

This guide provides tips for creating a suppressed sniper class and tactics for playing as a suppressed sniper in Call of Duty 4. It recommends the Dragonuv, WA2000, or PSG1 sniper rifles when using a suppressor and perks like Ghost and Sleight of Hand. Tactics discussed include staying hidden, luring enemies by throwing decoys or firing an unsilenced pistol, avoiding giving away your position to enemies using the Hacker perk, and practicing as a suppressed sniper against bots on different difficulty levels. The goal is to get comfortable making two-shot kills while remaining unseen.

Short's Guide To Suppressed Sniping

First off you gotta make a suppressed sniper class. This following section will include how to prepare
yourself to quietly cutoff a whole alleyway.

The Snipers
Dragonuv
The Dragonuv is a very viable choice to put a suppressor on and fire away. The Dragunov doesn't
recenter itself the fastest, so it might be hard to get the second shot in, but since this has the largest
magazine size out of the snipers, you don't have to reload as frequently. Great for objective games where
you have to mow down many opponents going for the objective at one time. This sniper is unlocked at
level 3.

WA2000
This sniper has a smaller magazine size then then the Dragonuv, but has the quickest recentering out of
all the snipers. This is for people who want more accurate shots and have many one shot, one kill
headshots. Great for when you're getting kills, but not as much with the objectives. This sniper is
unlocked at level 10.

L96
The L96 is a favorite among most when it comes to sniping unsuppressed, since the one shot kill to
stomach or above gives it an edge over the other sniper. Well, with a suppressor this gun is now on
equal, if not lower playing field than the other snipers. The magazine is the smallest out of the snipers, the
gun is also bolt action so the follow up shot is very hard, and makes a somewhat loud sound even with a
suppressor. Useful in hardcore, but this guide is for softcore, so this gun is very ineffective. The L96 is
unlocked at level 27.

PSG1
This sniper has its place as a one shot, one kill suppressed sniper. Being the most accurate out of the
snipers the headshot is easier to make. Having one of the smallest magazine sizes, this gun can't spray
and pray. Unless you're certain you can hit the headshot on every moving target, I'd suggest this to be
you're counter camper. This sniper is the classified sniper, and is unlocked once you buy all the other
snipers.

Secondaries
Pistols
Any pistol will work, but make sure its one that you know you can win a fire fight with. This is all about
preference.

Launchers
You shouldn't be using a launcher because as a rule of thumb, launchers are usually used at longer
range, which you have covered with your sniper.
Specials
The crossbow is awsome for humiliating foes at close range, but not practical. Now the Ballistic Knife is
where you can shine. If you practice enough, you can easily humiliate foes at close range, and also keep
it a practical choice. The Ballistic Knife is unlocked at level 15, and the Crossbow is unlocked at level 33.

Lethals
Personal preference as all of them you don't appear on radar. The tomahawk is a stealthy choice as their
is no sound when throwing it, or when it kills, and is an instant kill if it connects. The other two are more
for lobbing at positions not in your line of sight.

Tacticals
A preference choice, but decoys are the most helpful as a suppressed sniper. Just through a decoy into
your alley that your covering, and watch the enemies flush in and get shot down by your sniper, and they
wonder where they got sniped from. More about how to use tacticals in the tactics part of this guide.

Equipment
Now choosing equipment for this type of class is hard. If you plant a camera spike, claymore, or motion
sensor to watch your back, then people with hacker will just see where your at and kill you. So when
using equipment, make sure it is not placed near you. You never want to use a tactical insertion unless
really needed, because a lot of people camp near tactical insertions to get an easy kill. Choose what you
prefer to guard your back or pick something you think people with hacker will go to(more on that in the
tactics part).

Perk 1
Ghost is the only reasonable choice, since your suppressing your sniper so you always stay off the radar.
If you must have your favorite perk one, then hope you have someone with an anti-air class on your team
to take down those pesky spy planes.

Perk 2
This a personal preference choice. All perk 2 choices are reasonable, because of their power. Scout can
help you get that headshot, Sleight of Hand helps that small magazine problem, Stead Aim will help your
pistol keep you alive, Warlord will give you an extended magazine, or a better scope option, or hardened
will help you get those kills that used to be impossible. The pro perks will help a ton more.

Perk 3
This perk slot has always been a slot of pure preference since CoD4. Pick whatever you think will suit you
the best.

Tactics
Now that you have your class made, you're ready for battle. Here are some tactics to keep you alive.

Stay hidden
Keep in ming that most tactics here are assuming you have ghost. Always remember to stay hidden. With
that suppressor you're not showing up on that radar, so staying visibly unseen is essential. Find a nice
bush, or a dark room, or even a little grass and stay hidden. If spotted when trasferring spots and you
can't win the fight then evade the fight and hide. Use a willy pete near some grass and prone in the grass
and he wont find you. Use a stun and run to the bush behind him and crouch. Or lastly, just throw a flash
and get the heck out of there.
Luring
Luring is another essential tactic since people won't be running to kill you as they don't know your
position. Having an unsilenced pistol can do that job, but that would give away your actual position. One
way is to throw a decoy into your line of sight and kill anyone going for your decoy. Another is to quickly
run out fire three pistol rounds and run back to your position.

Hacker!
First off I'm talking about the perk, not actual hacking. Hacker will be your worst nightmare because they
will usually show your position according to where they're placed. If this happens a few times, then put
that equipment in your alley way and laugh at that person foolishly fall into your trap. You could start out
with this tactic and then put your equipment by yourself, and they'll probably back off if they learned their
lesson.

The Sniping
Ok, so you can't do well unless you snipe. So here. ALWAYS expect a two shot kill. Remember that a
headshots are bonuses, not a way to snipe, unless the target is standing completely still. While sniping
remain hidden, and use a spot to snipe that is hard for the enemy to see you, like grass or a bush, and a
good line of sight. Remember practice makes perfect.

Combat Training
So practice makes perfect. So I have a 4 point plan to help you become a better suppressed sniper user.
1. Set the AIs to recruit and have none on your team and 5 on the other. Stand out in the open and scope
in on any opponents and shoot them. Don't smash the trigger, but take your time. This will help you get a
feel for the rifle.

2. Next set the AIs on regular and have only 3 opponents on a small map. None should be on your team.
Right now you should only be using a pistol, and learn to defend yourself. This will make it harder for
opponents to flank you, and you can switch spots more often without fearing a death.

3. Ok, so I know this is part of "Combat Training", but it's here. Go to a private match with a friend, and
find a patch of grass or a bush with only one good sight line. Start shooting, and ask your friend if your
visibly visible while shooting. If not, then thats a good spot. Find 1-2 for each map.

4. Lastly, set the AIs to hardened and use all your techniques. You can use any weapon in your class,
and stay in one of your found spots. Once you start to get the hang of it(1.25 or better k/d ratio), then you
can move on to the multiplayer lobbies.

Ok that's it. The only other place that I've posted this is on the CoD4boards.com. It looks more
presentable there. This would've been posted a long time ago if this forum wasn't so broken.
