Type 6010, 6011, and Whisper Disk Inline Diffusers: Bulletin 80.1:6010

The document describes three types of inline diffusers - Types 6010, 6011, and Whisper Diskt - that are installed downstream of control valves to reduce noise generated by steam, gas, or vapor flow. The diffusers work by dividing the total pressure drop across both the valve and diffuser, allowing the valve to operate at a lower pressure ratio and greatly reducing noise levels. The diffusers offer versatility in installation methods and configurations, and can provide up to 40 dB of noise reduction when properly selected and installed with a control valve.

Inline Diffusers
Because valves can be substantial noise contributors
when controlling industrial processes, Fisher Controls
offers a complete line of diffusers to provide optimum
noise attenuation. A diffuser is a pressure-reducing
device that is installed downstream from the control
valve. The total pressure drop of the system is divided
across the valve and a diffuser. This enables the valve
to operate at a lower pressure ratio and greatly reduce
the control valve noise level generated by steam, gas,
or vapor flow.

TYPE 6010 WHISPER DISKt
The Types 6010, 6011 and Whisper Diskt (figure 1)
in-line diffusers are installed downstream of any con-
trol valve. Flexibility is key, whereas several installa-
tion methods are available, based on design of the
diffusers. They are used in steam, gas, or vapor flow
applications to achieve minimum noise generation.

diffuser for higher capacities. Both are ruggedly built
D Total Control— A diffuser-valve combination static devices requiring no maintenance after installa-
