Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) is an offered Full-time Doctoral program and it is offered by the BS Abdur Rahman Crescent
Institute of Science and Technology, Chennai. Ph.D. program shall be for a minimum duration of three years, including course
work and a maximum of six years. Extension beyond the above limits will be governed by the relevant clauses as stipulated in
the Statute/Ordinance of the individual Institution concerned.
Eligibility Criteria
   Master's degree or a professional degree declared equivalent to the Master’s degree by the corresponding statutory
   regulatory body, with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent
   grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) or an equivalent degree from a foreign educational Institution
   accredited by an Assessment and Accreditation Agency which is approved, recognized or authorized by an authority,
   established or incorporated under a law in its home country or any other statutory authority in that country for the purpose
   of assessing, accrediting or assuring quality and standards of educational institutions.
   Candidates who have cleared the M.Phil. course work with at least 55% marks in aggregate or its equivalent grade 'B' in the
   UGC 7-point scale (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever grading system is followed) and successfully completing
   the M.Phil. Degree shall be eligible to proceed to do research work leading to the Ph. D. Degree in the same Institution in an
   integrated programme. A relaxation of 5% of marks, from 55% to 50%, or an equivalent relaxation of grade, may be allowed
   for those belonging to SC/ST/OBC(non-creamy layer)/differently-abled and other categories of candidates as per the
   decision of the Commission from time to time.

Facilities
       Boys Hostel
The University has excellent hostel facilities and infrastructure within the campus that make students feel comfortable and at
home. There are men’s hostels which can accommodate upto 1500 students. Four well constructed, state of the art buildings,
complete with lifts, form the new hostel block. The men and women hostels have their own mess, where the students are
offered a choice of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The separate room and tariff is available for the international
students.
       Girls Hostel
The University has excellent hostel facilities and infrastructure within the campus that make students feel comfortable and at
home. It has a secure women’s hostel which can accommodate upto 350 students. Four well constructed, state of the art
buildings, complete with lifts, form the new hostel block. The men and women hostels have their own mess, where the
students are offered a choice of both vegetarian and non-vegetarian food. The separate room and tariff is available for the
international students.
       Medical/Hospital
A healthy body and a sound mind are the mainstays of academic and personal excellence. For the benefit of students, the
University has a health center that is operational 24 x 7 with an additional 8-bed in-patient facility and an ambulance. Two
resident doctors, one male and one female, are ably supported by qualified paramedical staff to ensure smooth operations. A
specialist doctor makes weekly visits to the hostel. The University also has a tie-up with AG Hospital, Tambaram, for
emergencies.
       Gym
The University has a Gym facility for the students.
       Library
The University Central Library is a repository of books on various disciplines of Engineering and Management, including books
on Science and Humanities and other inter-disciplinary subjects. It has over 56,252 volumes and 25,357 titles with 2536
Journals and Magazines including IEEE, ACM, ASME, ASCE & Springer Journals worth Rs 1.95 crores and Educational CD’s.

For the First Year students, a common computing facility for those who want to browse the Internet beyond department
working hours, a separate facility is provided with 70 systems.
       Cafeteria
The University canteen consists of four long and wide halls and is very well furnished. Apart from being a place that offers
delicious, healthy and nutritious meals for students and staff, it has always been a place for relaxation and friendly banter. In
this beloved hangout for college-goers, one can experience every shade and colour of life. Apart from the usual menu, the
canteen also boasts of 2 kiosks for fresh juices and milk-shakes.
       Auditorium
B.S. Abdur Rahman Institute boasts of a very large Convention Centre which houses an auditorium of 1400 seating capacity
and three sophisticated seminar halls of seating capacity 300, 200 and 100.
       Transport Facility
The institution is well connected with the common transport services. In addition to that college, buses are available Faculties
are also picked by cars and vans.

The University has a good networking for alumni association.

In addition to the campus-wide WIFI connectivity. The Internet Bandwidth in the campus is 100 Mbps on 1 Gb National

About College:
B.S. Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology was established in 1984. The College offers admissions to
undergraduate, postgraduate and Ph.D programmes related to various disciplines of Engineering and Technology. The
Institute also offers a number of academic and infrastructural facilities including laboratory, soft skill development
programme, career counselling, industrial visits, sports and games facilities, library, book store, hostels, transportation and
canteen facilities to the students, faculty and staff members. The College also conducts an entrance examination of its own
called Crescent Institute Engineering Admission Test (CIEAT) to offer admissions to various streams of Engineering.

      NSS- National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Youth Programme which is established under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and
      Sports, Government of India. Students of BS Abdur Rahman Institute of Science and Technology have also conducted
      various programmes under this scheme including international yoga day, blood donation, leprosy campaign, swachh
      bharat, literary campaign, mass cleaning, mass tree plantation, road traffic awareness, sand sculpturing, polio vaccine,
      disaster management, PFMS training etc. to spread awareness among the common people.
      Rotaract Club- The members of Rotaract Club aim to develop students in terms of technical and professional field. The
      members of this society also work for the well being of the society by developing their leadership skills. The club also
      conducts various activities like career talks, annual kabaddi meet, cleanathons, blood donation camps, treks, technical
      competitions etc.
      Crescent Literary Society- The Literary Society of BS Abdur Rahman Crescent Institute of Science and Technology,
      Chennai is a platform where students engage and encourage each other to nurture their literary skills. Students get an
      opportunity to develop their writing and speaking skills. The members of this society involve themselves in activities to
      take a break from their academics. Various events are also conducted by the members of this club including creative
      writing, debate, group discussion, quiz etc.
      Entrepreneurial Cell (E-Cell)- The E-Cell aims to develop the business and entrepreneurship skills of students who are
      interested in inventing their own ventures. Students are provided with overall development programmes so that they can
      develop skills like leadership, teamwork and confidence which in result will help them become entrepreneurs in near
      future.
      Student Council: The Student Council maintains and enhances student life in all the relevant aspects such as academic
      and social areas and represent the student body in all matters.
      Youth Red Cross: The vision of the Youth Red Cross is to become a leading humanitarian organization serving vulnerable
      people. The members of the club regularly take part in the various events and promote humanitarian services in society.
