Groove! There is something about music that just takes our care away. Each beat of a
sound produced moves to our body like an active electrical wave- may it be mellow, trap music
or pop, the rhythmic patterns will overtake your consciousness. The challenge of mastering a
perfect signature moves will make your heart-pumping in joy. Ever heard of a dance? Of
course, you do! Dancing is a big part of our culture as Filipinos. Saying that” Dancing is the
life of Filipinos” is a huge understatement from fiestas, birthdays, death, marriage to cultural
celebration dancing is always performed. Dancing is not only an expressional performance in
a form of an art, it is a healthy work-out to exercise our pumping hearts.

Whether you are 80 years or 18 years old, the benefits of dancing to your health will
change your life! Dancing promotes a healthier type of body work-out from better physical and
mental well-being, it will boost your capabilities in just a sweat. Dancing is considered as
physical work-out, the physical benefits of moving your body in a beat is like other cardio-
vascular activities. Dancing is good for the heart. It improves cardiovascular health for adults
by neutralizing the circulation of blood and supporting the passage of air. From this, many
physicians and surgeons around the world recommend dancing to various health-issues
including obesity, cancer and other respiratory problems, Additionally, many forms of dancing
such as ballroom and cha cha are appropriate for people with limited mobility or chronic health
issues. It can help you modify your work-out’s intensity.

Dancing also improves balance and strength. It is a great form of physical fitness
because it incorporates movements on all planes of motion from all directions. Dancing works
your body from all planes including lateral and rotational which turns on and condition all
muscles. No muscle is left behind! It also improves flexibility. Most dance requires stretching
exercises, the muscles should achieve full range of motion. The greater the range of motion,
more muscle can flex and extend. Hence, most dance requires stretching and bending to be
more flexible.

Dancing is a way to reduce stress. Dancing is a therapeutic way for people to channel
any feelings they may be experiencing. Life can be sometimes tough, and dancing will give
you an outlet for your emotions by using movements and music to connect in a positive
environment. Dancing can give you a limitless sense of freedom both physical and
psychological. The things that can be said by our minds or mouths can be expressed through
dancing. It aids in reducing the amount of cortisol produced in your brain- the hormone that is
associated with stress. It also boost memory dancing encourage nerve cells to grow and brain
power is boosted. It incorporates several brain functions at once- kinesthetic, rational, musical
and emotional. Utilizing all of these at the same time can further increase neutral activity
helping to reduce Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.

Dancing promotes self-esteem and confidence. The exercise receive in dancing creates
a powerful change in the brain. It releases tension, promoting a positive attitude and leaving
you feeling energized. It serves as avenue to boost your self confidence by knowing that hard
work will always pay off. Dancing is a social activity, it provides avenue for everyone, young
or old to connect with others. Mastering a move can make you feel a sense of achievement,
knowing that you have the capacity to learn. Dancing will potentially increase your self-image,
it improves your overall being as an individual. By dancing, the insecurity and flaws are
considered as strength.

As you become active in dancing, nutrients are needed to sustain energy. The body
needs ample amount of proteins, carbohydrates, fat and water. Protein is used by the body in
building and repairing tissue. It is used to make enzymes and other body chemicals. It is the
building blocks of bones, muscles and skin. Carbohydrates are foods that can be converted into
glucose or sugar. It provides energy for all the cells and is used by the organs to function. It
fuels the body as well as the brain and needed for cellular reactions. Fats is important to the
body, it gives energy to support cell growth. It helps the body absorbed nutrients and vitamins
that is essential for the body. Eating a diet that is also balanced, varied and moderate will
provide you with all the nutrients the body needs. It is important to know that the key points in
leading a healthy lifestyle requires discipline in eating as well as in performing activities.

Dancing is great so get your body moving and break the sweats! Get some grove, get
some jive. Dancing is an art, good for the body best for the heart.

Bangus Festival is
annually celebrated in
Dagupan City during the
month of April or May. It
highlights the city’s rich
milk aquaculture industry
in the province of
Bangus Festival Pangasinan and in the
country. On the 3rd of
Secular
May 2003 the populace
(Dagupan City) of Dagupan City created
the longest grilled
“bangus” street party
measuring 1,007.67
meters that gained a
Guinness World Record of
the longest barbecued
grill worldwide. Alongside
with this different dishes of
bangus is also featured in
the celebration through
the cooking festival. The
Bangus Festival has been
one of the most awaited
celebrations in the
province of Pangasinan.
Sarakiki Hadang Festival is
celebrated in Calbayog
City, Samar during the
primary seven day stretch
of September. This

Sunday of January and is
referred to as the
“Mother of All Festivals”.
The festival is a dance
ritual in which tells the
story of the Filipino’s
pagan past and their
acceptance of
Christianity. The word
“sinulog” means
“graceful dance”, where
in it all started in 1980 with
a simple dance that
represents the “sulog”
(current) of a river in
Cebu. The festival
features costumes,
dances, concerts,
fireworks display, cultural
shows, fun runs and
beauty pageants. The
colorful and well-made
costumes of the dancers,
the upbeat music of the
drum has brought the
Sinulog Festival to be one
of the most attended
celebration in the
Philippines and has been
recognized as the “City
of Culture” by Asean.

The Pintados-
Kasadyaan Festival is
Pintados- month long celebration
Kasadyaan annually held on the Cultural-
month of June. It is

festival in the region.
Kasadyaan which

“pintados” warriors.

Moriones Festival is one of


the events that happen
during Holy Week in the
Philippines. The Festival is
Moriones held in Marinduque
