Introduction

In 2019, PepsiCo has become one of the world’s leading player in the global food and
beverage industry. It was founded in 1965 when Pepsi-Cola merged with Frito-Lay to
produce a company that deliver snacks along with best cola on earth. Nowadays, PepsiCo has
sold their products in more than 200 countries and generate about $92 billion of sales
average. The brand consists of six divisions which are PepsiCo Beverages North America;
Frito-Lay North America; Quaker Foods North America; Latin America; Europe Sub-
Saharan Africa; and Asia, Middle East and North Africa. The company’s mission is to Create
More Smiles With Every Sip And Every Bite which they tend to produce delicious, affordable
and convenient foods and beverages to all the customers along the world. On the other hand,
PepsiCo’s vision is to integrate sustainability in the marketplace to propel the company
forward into new era of growth.

PepsiCo offer a large and full range of products to give consumers various choices.
Sharon Bailey, (2014) found that the company come out with food products including chips,
flavoured snacks, cereals, rice, pasta, and daily-based products while beverage products
include carbonated soft drinks, juices, ready-to-drink tea and coffee, sports drinks, and
bottled water. PepsiCo’s owns 22 brands include Pepsi, Lays, Gatorade, Mountain Dew, 7 Up
and others. These brands help the company to generate billion dollars each annually.

PepsiCo maintain their strong competitive advantage by using its generic strategy
effectively. PepsiCo’s competitive strategy is based on their biggest competitors which Coca-
Cola Company is one of them. The main strategies that enable PepsiCo to gain competitive
advantage are cost leadership and broad differentiation. For example, PepsiCo set low prices
with low operating costs to compete with Coca-Cola products. The company also
manufactured special and unique products like PepsiCo’s Lays potato chips that target on
healthy snack market to attract consumers. These strategies success in maintaining their
second largest company in the global food and beverage industry.
