A COMMENDATION SPEECH ADDRESSED TO NINOY AND CORY
AQUINO

From this dictatorship to democracy, this has been a revolutionary change the Philippines has ever
gone through by leadership and governance former Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino and former Cory Aquino
As a student regarding to this subject, I am refreshing and reminded by my teacher before who
introduced and teached me the President of the Philippines. As far as I remember, that the first president of
the republic of the Philippines was Emilio Aguinaldo and our current president is Rodrigo Duterte, whom I
knew as strict and direct speaking to Filipino citizens even he threw words that hurts. But I am truly amazed
and believed by the person who had the long term years in his presidential, Ferdinand Marcos.
As I grew up in Samar, I was captivated by the landmark in Eastern Visayas that called San Juanico
Bridge. This is one of the contributions of the former president Marcos. His administration was led by
dictatorship and implementation of Martial law seemed to be contentious for me. That’s why I am confused
to tell my side if I am pro or anti-Marcos.
If I am side with anti-Marcos, we politically side with “yellow” color of the liberal party, the Aquino . I
believed that former first gentleman Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino is one of the most brilliant figures any Filipino
know throughout the Philippine History who had guts to stand, fight and lead the opposition against the
Marcos regime. I remembered the quote ‘A Filipino is worth dying for” that gives me lesson to fight for the
Filipinos and risk my life to protect and honor our country despite the possibility will happen. Her death has
always been a symbol and cry for a revolution-an inspiration that motivated, former president Cory Aquino
to continue the will of democracy.
In a society, women are favored as a “lesser” class than men. But the former president Cory Aquino is
the first female president of the Philippines, one is truly admirable and inspiration for our country. Despite of
being a woman, she did not show any sign of weakness especially during the People Power of Revolution
when she gained countless supporters against the abusive leadership of government.
She proved that women’s can do what men do, showed that women should not be defined or measured
in playing a role in society especially in a government. Despite the death of her husband, her strength
proved and pushed her desire for Filipino’s freedom. She may be underrated by the Marcos, still
successfully became the first lady president of the Philippines.
As a Filipino citizen of the current generation, I am thankful for his opportunity for knowing the sacrifices
and efforts you have made, for helping and undying seeking for freedom that you showed us that we must
to stand up and be fearless to fight for the right despite the odds and contumelious control of power . You
are such an inspiration to us, your dedication and passion to our country are highly appreciated.
By the power of God’s grace, may we continue to prosper in freedom and democracy. May your efforts
and sacrifice not wasted but remembered.
