Hamlet: Feminism

In William Shakespeare's Hamlet, women are portrayed as weak and reliant on men. Gertrude and Ophelia express reliance on the men in their lives, as Gertrude quickly remarries after her first husband's death and Ophelia goes mad with grief after her father's death. Both women are taught to appear fragile and obey men to survive in a world ruled by men. However, by the end of the play both Gertrude and Ophelia realize they do not need to be manipulated by men and can take control of their own lives.
