Third Person (Rule)

This document discusses third person singular verbs in English. [1] In the simple present tense, most third person singular verbs end in "s" like "he works" and "she teaches." [2] There are some exceptions where verbs ending in certain letters like "ch", "sh", "ss", "x", and "o" add "es" instead of just "s". [3] Verbs ending in "y" either change the "y" to "ies" after a consonant, or just add "s" after a vowel. Questions, negatives, and modal verbs are exceptions and do not change in the third person.
