MT700C/MT800C SERIES TRACKED TRACTOR

COUPLER HOUSING REPLACEMENT - RP6378

Advice
In some isolated cases the implement valves on the C-Series Tracked Tractors have
potential for the quick couplers to become detached from the valve body when
pressurized. This due to the spiral snap ring groove being incorrectly machined
preventing the snap ring from holding the coupler in place. All units built with the
suspected coupler housing machining errors are being updated with correctly
machined coupler housings included coupler rework kits identified beedlow. Follow
the procedure outlined below to complete the updates on these units.
Poppet Valve update will also be included for RP6378 coupler housing replacement
to prevent need for duplicate repairs. Poppet valves RP for other C Series machines
will be released when adequate parts supply are available for all other C Series
machines.

NOTE:
If machine has a 4 section valve stack you will need to order 8 Poppet Valve Kits
(543030D1).

If machine has a 5 section valve stack you must order 10 Poppet Valve Kits
(543030D1).

If machine has a 6 section valve stack you must order 12 Poppet Valve Kits
(543030D1).

Also if machine has a 3 point. hitch then you must order 1 Hitch Valve Poppet Kit
(543029D1).

If any of these tractors have field installed sections, that coupler block will not need
to be replaced.

Action
1. If the tractor falls into the serial number list, order the correct kit for the
tractor. In this kit there is a top, middle, and bottom coupler housing. These
will be labelled as to the correct section.
2. Clean implement valve and coupler housing sections as clean as possible to
prevent possible contamination of hydraulic components during repair.
3. Remove (6) screws from each coupler dust cover, indicated by red arrows in
Figure 1, also the covers from the stack.

Figure 1
Page 3 of 14 CHALL 09/10

4. Next remove the snap ring holding in the remote couplers on each side. See
Figure 2.

Figure 2
5. By depressing the coupler handle, remove each coupler from the stack.
6. Once all the couplers have been removed, the coupler handles need to be
removed by removing the snap ring holding the handle in place. See Figure 3.
NOTE: Three point hitch arms can be lifted with hoist or lift to allow access to
remove all coupler handles.

Figure 3
Page 4 of 14 CHALL 09/10

7. Using a 3/16 hex remove each plug on the left hand side of the section. See
Figure 4.

Figure 4

8. Using a 5mm hex remove the short bolt positioned behind the plug removed
in the previous step. See Figure 5.

Figure 5
Page 5 of 14 CHALL 09/10

9. With the same size hex continue with removing the long bolt on the right hand
side of the valve. See Figure 6.

Figure 6

10. Next with a 14mm hex remove the lock-out assemblies from inside the
coupler block. See Figure 7.

Figure 7
Page 6 of 14 CHALL 09/10

11. Once the lock-out assemblies are removed, then the coupler is loose, remove
the coupler, as seen in Figure 8.

Figure 8

12. Once you have removed the lock-out assemblies and the coupler housing, the
poppet valve and spring indicated by red arrows in Figure 9 can be removed by
using a magnet to pull out of the spring and valve.

Replace poppet valves

with the kit ordered

Figure 9
Page 7 of 14 CHALL 09/10

13. Remove alignment sleeves from the bottom of the coupler block as seen in
Figure 10. Re-install them into the main body.

Figure 10

14. Install the sump fitting into the bottom coupler block as indicated by red arrow
in Figure 11. The bottom coupler block has a cast surface, also labelled
“bottom”. Re-install the O-ring on coupler drain port.

Figure 11
Page 8 of 14 CHALL 09/10

15. Install the bottom coupler block using the lock-out assemblies and torque to
81 ± 8 Nm (60.0 ± 6.0 lb-ft) as seen in Figure 12.

Figure 12

16. Install the remaining coupler blocks including the sump O-ring as seen in
figure 13.

Figure 13
Page 9 of 14 CHALL 09/10

17. Install the couplers into all the blocks. Ensure the couplers are installed fully
into the bore and the snap ring is visible and not restricted. See Figure 14.
18. Install the snap ring fully inside the groove.

Figure 14

19. Install the short bolt on the left side of the section and torque to 9.5 ± 1 Nm
(7.0 ± 1 lb-ft) as seen in Figure 15.

Figure 15
Page 10 of 14 CHALL 09/10

20. Install the long bolt on the right side of the section and torque to 9.5 ± 1 Nm
(7.0 ± 1 Ft-lb). See Figure 16.

Figure 16

21. Install all SAE plugs on the left side of the section and torque to 19 ± 2 Nm
(14.0 ± 1.5 Ft-lb). See Figure 17.

Figure 17
Page 11 of 14 CHALL 09/10

22. Install all coupler handles as seen in Figure 18.

Figure 18
NOTE: Three point hitch arms can be lifted with hoist or lift to allow access to
reinstall all coupler handles.
23. If MT700 tractor is equipped with a three point hitch remove 90 degree fitting
illustrated as number 1 in Figure 19, then remove Connector fitting 2 to gain
access to the poppet assembly.

Figure 19
Page 12 of 14 CHALL 09/10

24. Remove poppet retaining plug (1) in Figure 20. Use a magnet to replace spring
(2) and hitch poppet valve (3) in hitch valve. Install new poppet valve, spring
and plug.

Figure 20

25. Install the coupler drain hose.

26. To ensure the couplers seat correctly, pressurise each coupler to inspect for
leakage with a hose connected to that coupler only not looped for flow.
27. Test to ensure the poppet functions correctly. A looped line with a pressure
gauge can be used to ensure the return poppet opens correctly, this needs to
be done in both directions.
28. Install section location bracket to the coupler block. See Figure 21.

Figure 21
Page 13 of 14 CHALL 09/10

29. Install screws into the coupler cover and torque to 5 ± 0.5 Nm (3.6 +/- 0.3 lb-ft)
torque specification.
