Dear Mr.
Crutchfield:
I recently learned of your need for a High School English Teacher in your school district and would love
to be considered for this position. I feel that my educational and professional background in English
teaching would prove to be valuable assets to your institution.
I bring strong instructional, motivational and creative skills to fast-paced learning environments, keeping
students engaged and interested in the subjects being taught. Through the years, I have learned to
incorporate fun individual and group projects and classroom activities that have proven effective in
helping students develop grade-appropriate reading comprehension and writing abilities.
I remain dedicated to improving my teaching methods and regularly attend professional development
seminars to learn new ways to bring a fresh approach to teaching high school English. Also, I have
consistently kept meticulous records of student progress and achievement and keep in constant
communication with parents and school officials regarding these issues.
By developing simple yet effective lesson plans and extracurricular activities to help further students
strengthen writing and literacy skills, I have helped numerous high school students achieve greater
success on English exams, produce stronger essays and research papers, and raise reading levels. On
average, my students gain more than five points on their class grades throughout the school year.
I am eager to discuss this open position and my credentials in person. I can arrange for an interview at
your earliest convenience.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Mary K. Stollings

Dear Mr. Wilkins and Ms. Hoskins,
As you no doubt know, English teachers set students up for success and failure every day. English is a
magical and challenging language, and I approach my teaching so that students can be successful. I
appreciate the thorough job postings on the district website, and I believe I am qualified for the English
teacher position at Whittfield High in every way.I am nearing the end of my student teaching term at
Brookview Middle School. When I started in January, quite a few students were indifferent toward
English. I changed that up by assigning fun reading in addition to required reading. I develop lesson plans
that incorporate student plays and performances such as reciting favorite quotes from a book. Now,
when students walk into the room, excitement shines in their eyes, and they enthusiastically contribute
in class. I do stay fully compliant with state standards of learning objectives; simply injecting small twists
here and there is huge for student engagement. I also adapt lesson plans to meet the needs of students
with varying learning styles, and I have gained valuable experience from having an interpreter for a
student who is deaf in my class. Next month, I will graduate from Doe and Smith University with dual
bachelor’s degrees in English and secondary education. My qualifications include patience, people skills,
a knack for connecting with parents, students, and administrators, and a passion for English and
teaching. With my credentials, I believe I could do much good at Whittfield High. I hope we can meet for
an interview, and I thank you for reviewing my application materials.
