Throughout the novel, Valjean develops a strong bond towards Cosette.
If
you come across a child that is in desperate need, would you be willing to
do what Valjean had done for Cosette?
Les Misérables novel are concerned with social issues in 19th-century urban France, but I learned
about love and forgiveness. First, Valjean passed 19-year-long in prison for stealing bread to feed
his sister's children during a time of economic depression and various attempts to escape from
prison. When he leaves prison, he feels hatred and revenge. His life turns around when Bishop
Myriel show him compassion. Out of this encounter, Valjean becomes a repentant, honorable,
and dignified man. He becomes kind, a devoted father-figure to a girl. Since then, Valjean
develops a strong bond towards Cosette, who loses her mother. If I come across a child that is in
desperate need, I would be willing to do what Valjean had done for Cosette. There are many
reasons I save a child homeless.
First, child exploitation is unheard of, so we must allow children to play, to imagine, fantasies. I
would protect him like Valjean did with Cossette. For example, Cosette is eight years old and
lives with the Thénardiers in Montfermeil. They force her to work, beat her, insult her mother,
and practically starve her, while pampering and spoiling their own two daughters, Eponine and
Azelma. In such a way that this little boy feels a comforting feeling that he is somehow God.
Second, I bring child homeless education because Education improves persons chances in life
and helps to tackle poverty. LikeValjean, I teach to read and write. For example, a child
education help expressing them or understanding what others are saying. Finally, I believe that
parents are essential for the balanced development of the personality and for proper socialization.
Then, I believe that children deserve to have parents regardless of their biological origin. If
sexual otherness is lacking, the child will lack what is most essential for his correct psychic
development and the consequences, we perceive them rebellion, lack of attention, etc. For
example, Valjean become a devoted father-figure to a Cossette, which thanks to him she was
able to have a life full of joy and bring him happiness. In my personal life, my older son is 6
years old, and he demonstrates me that Children's emotional development is directly related to
the loving, educational, disciplining and essential constant interaction of both parents.
In conclusion, I believe that love and compassion are the most important gifts one person can
give another because I could adopt a homeless child.
