Safety Instructions
The safety precautions must be strictly followed to ensure personal safety.
◆ When operating the ZTE equipment, abide by the local laws and regulations. If no local regulations are available, follow the information
provided in this document.
◆ The personnel in charge of installation must be trained and qualified for installing or maintaining the equipment.
◆ Personnel protection
• Before operating equipment, take off the personnel jewelry that conduct electricity, such as watches, chains, bracelets and rings.
• Wear personnel protective articles.
• Note the safety signs and warnings pasted on the equipment. Never cover or remove the safety signs and warnings.
◆ Equipment installation safety
• When carrying the cabinet, wear protective gloves.
• Before touching the cabinet, subracks, boards or cables, wear anti-static gloves or an anti-static wrist strap to prevent the electrostatic
discharge of the human body from damaging sensitive components.
• The personnel who install the electrical facilities must be qualified, because improper electrical installation can result in fire, electric
shocks, explosions, personal injury or death.

• The inside equipments of cabinet, including power distribution unit, ZXCTN 6120S, fan unit, dustproof unit, boards and subrack cables,
have been installed before they leave the factory.

• The installation flows of installing the subrack ourdoors and in network box are similar to the installation flow of installing subrack in the

The installation flow of installing the subrack on the desktop is similar to the installation flow of installing subrack on the wall. For
details, refor to “4. Installing the Subrack On the Desktop”.

 Unpacking and inspection
Unpacking the packing box to insure the number of goods is same with the one in the purchase order, and goods is intact. This chapter
describes the unpacking operation steps of wooden box and boards box.
Wooden box: Using to packing cabinet and subrack.
Boards box:Using to packing boards, terminal equipments and cables.

Precondition
Already got flat-head screwdriver, nail hammer, diagonal pliers, paper knife and anti-static gloves (or anti-static ).
A. Engineering supervisor and customers count goods by referring to Unpacking Inspection Guide to insure the package is intact.
B. Unpacking the outer packing of wooden box.
a. Transport the wooden box to the install place in the machine room by forklift or manual work.
b. Unlock tongues by flat-head screwdriver. As shown below, remove the upper cover and planks all around.
c. Take out the components list, technical documents and the public goods which need to be installed from the package No.1.

In the engineering installation, there are several packages to deposit goods. For easy to distinguish, packages are numbered such as No.1, No.2
and No.3.

d. Erect the cabinet, and bottom down.

e. Unpacking the outer foam wrap angle and packing tape of cabinet

C. As shown below, when unpacking the outer packing of boards, anti-static gloves should be worn.
D. Count, check, transport and deposit goods.

For the boards, which will not be installed immediately, should be put in the original packages and sealed.

 1. Installing Subrack on Wall
• When installing ZXCTN 6120S horizontally, there should be at least 200 mm reserved space around the equipment, except for mounted wall.
• Make sure that there is enough space from the roof of the equipment room after installing the wall-mounted bracket. If the top-cabling mode is used
to lay cables in the equipment room, the distance between the top cabling rack and the top of the wall-mounted bracket should be no less than
200 mm.
• The wall-mounting bracket should be installed properly and firmly. The horizontal and vertical deviations should be less than one thousandth of
cabinet height.
• For the equipment rooms with high shockproof requirements, devices should be reinforced to meet the shockproof requirements.

It is forbidden to drill hole on the wall-mounted bracket without permission. The drilled hole, which is not compliance with the requirements, will
damage the supporting structure of the wall-mounted bracket.

Vertical Installation Diagram

The vertical installation procedure is the same as the horizontal installation. The fan
must be installed in the lower part of the device.

For cable installation, please refer to "3. Cable Installation" .

2. Device Installation in Cabinet

2.1 Installing a Power Distribution Box

The power distribution box is installed in the top of cabinet and supply -48 V DC input power for it.

2.2 Installing Subrack in Cabinet
Keep the subrack straight when pushing it into the cabinet. If there is any resistance, stop pushing the subrack and check whether the subrack or the
cabinet is distorted. Forcible push may damage the equipment.

There should be at least 3U(1U=44.45 mm) reserved space in the bottom of the cabinet to insure the installation.
If there are more than three subracks installed in the cabnet, windshields wounld be settled between subracks.

2.5 Installing an Anti-static Wrist Strap

• Install anti-static wrist strap after cabinet is installed.

• Wear anti-static wrist strap when operating equipment.

If the cabinet is configured with an anti-static wrist strap jack,

you should install an anti-static wrist strap in it. The installation
procedure of the anti-static wrist strap in the cabinet is the same
as that on the subrack.

2.6 Installing a Board

2.6.1 Anouncements for installing boards

After getting the equipments or borads, the first time power on should be recorded.

2.7 Installing and Removing an Optical Module

2.7.1 Operation Cautions

• The ZXCTN 6120S pluggable optical modules support hot plugging. During a hot plugging operation, avoid laser hazards.
• When installing or removing an optical module, do not touch the golden finger interface connector to avoid damage leading to poor
contact.
• Do not install or remove the optical module with optical fibers attached to it.
• When installing an optical module, push the optical module into the port in a parallel direction.
• Avoid the direct contact between hands or other objects and the pins of optical modules. The tote box of each optical module must be
stored in an anti -static bag to prevent static electricity from being damaged.
• Avoid storing optical modules in an over wet or overheated environment. Otherwise, the gold fingers of the optical modules might be
oxidized or in poor contact.
• When you hold an optical module, notice that the electrical interfaces of the optical module must be kept away from other hard objects to
prevent the contacts of the electrical interfaces from being scratched or damaged.
• Never install and remove an optical module with force, so that the gold finger will not be damaged. Never directly and forcedly remove an
optical module before the unlock handle is rotated.
• Never shake an optical module with force, , so that the gold finger will not be damaged.
• Never use pliers or a hook to remove an optical module.
• When you install or remove an optical module, ensure that the optical module and module socket are on the same axis.

3.2 Connecting the External Power Cable and Protective Earth Cable
User power supply supplies -48 V DC input power for the power
distribution box by the out cabinet cable. The installation is
according to the power supply condition of user and make the
cable outlet on site.

If it is desktop installation or wall-mounting installation, one side of the

cabinet protection grounding cable is connected to the wall-mounting
bracket or the equipment's grounding point, and the other side is
connected to the subrack grounding bar.

3.4 Installing Subrack DC Power Cables
• When installing equipment in the cabinet, subrack DC power cables
supply power to equipment through the -48 V output of power
distribution box.
• If the equipment is not installed in the cabinet, it will be need to
according to the power supply condition of user and make the cable
outlet on site.

When the subrack DC power is installed, the installation should be along

the deepest location of the polar at the back of cabinet, and separated
from signal cables.

3.6 Connecting the Signal Cables
• Straightly install the cable, without curl and stacking.
• If the bend radius of the root of the cable is reduced, the outer
protective sleeve can be taken off by 30 cm~50 cm.

• The E1/T1cables should be laid in the cabling area on the right

of the cabinet.
• The E1/T1 cables should be laid in the deepest location of the
polar at the back of cabinet. The network cables should be laid
between the E1/T1 cables and fiber pigtails.

• The fiber pigtails should be laid separated from other signal

cables.
• When the fiber pigtails are installed to the cabinet, they should
pass through a soft protection tube. Before being put through
the soft protection tube, the fiber pigtails should be tied with
nylon adhesive hook-and-loop tapes, with a 20 cm spacing
between each other.

An optical interface without fiber pigtail should be inserted by an

interface plug.
A fiber pigtail not connected to the optical interface should be
covered with a cap.

4. Installing the Subrack On the Desktop

● ZXCTN 6120S equipments should not be stacked.
● The distance between neither left nor right side of the
device and other objects should be less than 40 mm.

For cable installation, please refer to “3. Cable Installation”

5. Installing the Subrack Outdoors

When the device is installed in an outdoor cabinet, the top of the device should not be higher than the lower edge of the air outlet of the cabinet and the dista-
nce between the device top and the shelter of the cabinet should not be less than 50 mm.

To install the subrack horizontally, refer to the procedure described in Section “2.2 Installing Subrack in Cabinet”.

• The subrack must be pushed into the cabinet smoothly and straightly. If it is hard to push the subrack into the cabinet, check whether the cabinet
or subrack is deformed. Forced pushing may result in device damage.
• During the outdoor installation, air deflector plates or U-shaped subracks must be installed in empty slots.

The vertical installation procedure is the same as the horizontal installation. The fan must be installed in the lower part of the device.

For how to install cables, refer to Chapter “3. Cable Installation”.

6. Installing the Subrack In the Network Box

6.1 Horizontal Installation
● In the horizontal direction, the distance between neither the left nor right side of the device and the side plate of the network box should be less than 40 mm,
and the air inlet and outlet must be kept clear with the blocking area less than 10% of the cross-sectional area of the ventilation hole.
● In the vertical direction, multiple devices should be seamlessly stacked, and the air inlet and outlet must be isolated by the distribution frame and the power
supply unit from the network box on the top or bottom with a distance less than 45 mm.

To install the subrack horizontally, refer to the procedure described in Section “2.2 Installing Subrack in Cabinet”.

6.2 Vertical Installation

The vertical installation procedure is the same as the horizontal procedure. It should be noted that the fan must be installed in the lower part of the device.
● In the horizontal direction, multiple devices should be seamlessly placed, and the air inlet and outlet must be isolated by the distribution frame and the pow-
er supply unit from the network box on the top or bottom with a distance not less than 45 mm.
● In the vertical direction, the distance between neither the left side nor the right side of the device and the side plate of the network box should be less than
40 mm, and the air inlet and outlet must be kept clear with the blocking area less than 10% of the cross-sectional area of the ventilation hole.

7. Making and Pasting the Cable Lable

7.1 Attaching a Cable Label

Stick a cable label at the position of 1 to 2 cm away from both cable terminals.

9.4 Powering On Subrack

It is forbidden to connect/disconnect subrack power cable connectors and plug/unplug power supply boards with power.

If the cable connector is not firm, we can use cross screwdriver to screw the fastening nut tightly or the captive screw .

Steps
A. Check power cables of the subrack. Ensure that the power cables are correctly connected with the power supply board on the
corresponding subrack.
B. Verify that the connectors at both ends of the subrack power cables are firmly connected.
C. Set the corresponding subrack power switch located on DC power distribution subrack to ON.
D. Observe indicator status on the power supply board.
• If the green indicator is constantly on, it indicates that the power supply is normal.
• If the indicator is not lit, it indicates that the power supply is invalid. Check the power supply and eliminate the faults.
E. Check the indicator panel on the top of the cabinet. If the green indicator is solid on, the power supply for the cabinet indicator panel is
normal.

9.5 Testing Fan

9.6 Checking Board Status

• Service boards have already been installed in the corresponding slots.

• The inspections for cabinet, subrack, and power supply of fan unit have already been implemented.
• The operator should wear an antistatic wrist strap to connect human body with the working ground.
Steps
A. Set the corresponding subrack power switch located on DC power distribution subrack “ON”.
B. Observe the indicator's status of every board of equipment.
• If the green indicator on the board is constantly on, it indicates that the board is operating normally.
• If the indicator is not lit, or any other abnormalities occur, check the power supply.

Appendix A.Cleaning Optical Interfaces

Laser is a dangerous invisible light. Do not look straight at fiber connectors or optical interfaces, lest laser hurt eyes.

A.1 Clean the end faces of the optical interfaces on an optical module with dust-free cotton swabs
• You must wear anti -static gloves.
• The optical module is removed.
• It is forbidden to install, remove, or shake the optical module with force.
• You must avoid the direct contact between hands or other objects and the pins of optical modules. The tote box of each optical module must be
stored in an anti -static bag to prevent static electricity from being damaged.
• When you hold an optical module, the electrical interfaces of the optical module must be kept away from other hard objects to prevent the contacts
of the electrical interfaces from being scratched or damaged.
A. Drop a small amount of cleaning solvents onto a dust-free cotton swab.
B. Lightly insert the dust-free cotton swab into the jack of the optical module (see the following figure).
C. Turn the dust-free cotton swab counterclockwise to clean the end faces of optical interfaces.
D. Install the cleaned optical module in the board.

• During engineering, various types of dust-free cotton swabs can be used for fiber cleaning. You can select an appropriate type as required.
• Each cotton swab can only be used to clean one optical module.
• Each optical module can be cleaned by multiple cotton swabs.

The cleaned optical interfaces must be used immediately and cannot be touched. The unused optical interfaces must be covered with dust-proof
caps.

A.2 Clean fiber connectors with a rub fiber box

If fiber connectors are not clean, you must clean them. There are various methods to clean fiber connectors, including pressure cleaning,
using a fiber cleaning pen, and using a rub fiber box. The following uses a rub fiber box as an example to describe how to clean fiber
connectors.

You must ensure that the board laser is shut down and the connections at both ends of fibers are disconnected.

A. Wear anti -static gloves.

B. Press down the handle of the rub fiber box to expose a new cleaning surface.
C. Lightly place the top end of a fiber on the cleaning surface, so that fiber end can be horizontally placed on the cleaning surface.
D. Lightly drag the fiber connector along the cleaning surface (see the right figure).
E. Refer to Step C to re-clean the top of the fiber on another cleaning surface.
F. Release the handle of the rub fiber box to close the cleaning surface.

• One cleaning surface cannot be used more than once, so that

fiber connectors will not be damaged or stain ed.
• The cleaned optical connectors must be used immediately and
cannot be touched. The unused optical connectors must be
covered with dust-proof caps.
