Bangalore Days

a) Main Cast: Dulquer Salman, Fahadh Faasil, Nazriya Nazim, Nivin Pauly, Parvathy
Director: Anjali Menon

For a movie that was released over 6 years ago, Bangalore Das still captures and
delights audiences every time it shows up on the television. It has become the go-to
movie for non-Malayali folks to get acquainted with the Malayalam film industry.

This is a story revolving around three cousins who move to Bangalore to follow their
dreams. Nivin plays ‘Krishnan PP’ or ‘Kuttan’, a software engineer who’s received
Bangalore as his first job location. He’s constantly homesick and can’t wait to run back
home on the weekends. Dulquer plays ‘Arjun’ or ‘Aju’ a school dropout who’s a free-
spirited and rugged guy who is also a skilled bike mechanic and son of estranged
parents. The movie never goes into the details of Aju’s past. Nazriya plays the youngest
cousin ‘Divya’ aka ‘Kunju’ who moves to Bangalore after getting married to ‘Das’, played
by Fahadh. The movie focuses on their lives in the new city, familial bonds, the new
relationships they build, the difficult pasts and secrets some of us have and, brings it all to
light in a way that broadens the viewer’s perspective.

The movie is a simple, feel-good story of the complex and intertwined lives of the
protagonists. Right from the title to the credits, Anjali Menon presents each character with
deep emotions and relatable struggles that really connect with the audience. The story
treads a somewhat predictable line but it has been done so artistically. Aju can’t help but
get smitten by the paraplegic ‘RJ Sarah’ portrayed by Parvathy. The scenes between the
two are really lively and adorable. The movie also follows the difficulties that Das and
Divya face as a newlywed couple who have yet to understand and accept each other
which is further worsened by his past which he tries to keep a secret. This secret does
form a major plot in the movie. The scenes involving Krishnan’s love life provide a
humorous glimpse into the mindset of a small-town boy who just moved to a big city. The
movie delivers these emotions in a very subtle yet unexpected way. One of the major
highlights of the movie is the motocross race towards the end. The decision to choose a
sport that doesn’t get much mainstream attention in India is really surprising. But the
cinematography of the race combined with the absolutely beautiful score by Ludovico
Einaudi really brought the movie to a peak.

The soundtrack of the movie mainly consists of five songs by Gopi Sunder which continue
to be popular songs even today. At three hours, the movie is a little long by most
standards but it successfully delivers a mix of the right kind of content with a little bit of
everything and ends on a surprising but happy note.

Overall, 'Bangalore Days' is a movie that you could watch multiple and still come out
smiling at the end of it.

b) A simple, heart-warming story of three cousins who move to the city of Bangalore to
follow their dreams, whilst facing the struggles and complexities that arise from their
relationships.
