Research Paper: World War Two & the Holocaust
Directions: Please choose ONE of the following five prompts to respond to for your research
paper. All papers should be 3-5 pages of text in length (double-spaced) and a bibliography page.
Use at least 3 sources, with one of these sources being a primary source document you find
through museum archives, the Library of Congress, or another online database. You’ll need to
cite these sources using MLA format. Specific requirements will be listed on the rubric and down
below.
Prompt 1: Describe the events leading up to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. Explain
the attack and its’ aftermath. Focus on themes of nationalism and the human costs of war.
Prompt 2: Choose one of the major battles of the war and describe its’ importance.
Prompt 3: Compare and contrast the role of propaganda when it came to Nazi Germany
and antisemitism and the war effort in the United States. How were they similar? How
were they different? How were they used to gain public support?
Prompt 4: In your opinion and through the use of your primary/secondary sources, why
did Neville Chamberlain’s policy of appeasement fail?
Prompt 5: Research and explain the different ways women and other minority groups
made a difference in the war.
Requirements:
1. 3-5 pages in length, double-spaced, Times New Roman, size 12 font.
2. Follow MLA format (in-text citations, etc.).
3. A minimum of 3 sources, one of which is a primary source document.
4. Your thesis statement should be found in your introduction paragraph and give readers an
idea of what your paper is going to be about.
5. Page numbers on the bottom right hand corner.
6. Your name, date, class period, AND a creative title of your work that relates to your
paper.
