”The Power of Media and Information and the Responsibility of the Users”

Media is a communication channels through which news,

entertainment, education, data, or promotional messages are
disseminated. Media includes every broadcasting and narrowcasting
medium such as newspapers, magazines, TV, radio, billboards, direct mail,
telephone, fax, and internet. Media is the plural of medium and can take a
plural or singular verb, depending on the sense intended. Media’s
increasing power and the influence brought by information has opened a lot
of doors to us, it paved way for the emergence of new and efficient
communication platforms; It led to the development of convenient online
markets; it made researching for information accessible to everyone; and it
gave us “freedom of speech.”

Media is the most powerful sector of an economy. It is a tool to

maintain a balanced society which is characterized by well-informed
people, effective democracy and social justice. In fact, media has
unparalleled influence on all aspects of human life in modern times.

The outgrowth of social media did not only make communication

across long distances easier but it also gave us our freedom to voice our
opinions and ideas publicly. This freedom also comes with a responsibility,
your words can empower people or it can spit venom, because people
nowadays will instantly believe anything what the media tells them to
believe.

I believe that, democracy depends on citizens being informed and it

doesn’t mean that media affects us that it depends upon the people who
are using it. The information we obtain is another serious issue. Media
influences our lives, it builds camaraderie among nations and it can also
create vast deception and distress. Media is the cementing force of
democracy, because it has supplemented the authority of people by giving
them awareness about political system and its functioning.

So, media and information literacy has the power to change an

individual’s mind-set perceiving life, his belief, perceptions, attitudes and
the way he/she accepts the societies challenge towards facing the society
itself because it can be easily accessed by anyone throughout the world
but the issue does not ended up from that, being an individual having
media and information literacy in his life means being a responsible enough
as a user who uses it dependently.
