All-Welded (AW) Wire-Wrapped
Screens
OVERVIEW
Halliburton All-Welded (AW) wire-wrapped
screens provide field-proven sand control
with a long history of reliability. The
keystone-shaped wire decreases screen
plugging associated with particulates
lodging between wires. The wire wrap is
manufactured separately from the basepipe,
and the wire wrapped jacket is then placed
over the perforated basepipe and welded to
the basepipe at either end.
AW screens combine high strength and
superior corrosion resistance for maximum
durability. The large inlet area reduces
entrance velocity for produced fluids, and
there are no solder strips, weld beads or
lugs to block flow.
Round wires form the ribs, while the
diameter and number are specified by the
strength required and size of screen. The
keystone shape forms “V” shaped openings
between wrap to provide self-cleaning
action and greatly reduce flow friction.
Smaller particles are easily passed through
the continuous slot and larger ones are held
out without inhibiting the total inlet area.
Gauge spacing of the AW screen is
permanent with a specified gauge tolerance
designed to be maintained even under
the roughest handling and installation
conditions.
