Assessment
Answer the following questions.
1. In your experience, what does illness bring to human person? (2 points)
In illness, man experiences his powerlessness, his limitations, and his finitude. Every
illness can make us glimpse death. Illness can lead to anguish, self-absorption, sometimes
even despair and revolt against God. It can also make a person more mature, helping him
discern in his life what is not essential so that he can turn toward that which is. Very often
illness provokes a search for God and a return to him.
2. Who may receive the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick? (2 points)
The recipients of the Anointing of the Sick are any of the faithful who are in danger of
death from sickness or old age its minister is the bishop or priest.
3. What are the effects of this sacrament? (5 points)
The effects of the Anointing of the Sick are:
(1) the uniting of the sick person to the passion of Christ, for his own good and that of the
whole Church;
(2) the strengthening, peace, and courage to endure in a Christian manner the sufferings of
illness or old age
(3) the forgiveness of sins, if the sick person was not able to obtain it through the
sacrament of Penance
(4) the restoration of health, if it is conducive to the salvation of his soul
(5) the preparation for passing over to eternal life.
4. Every human person will die, but we do not know the time, place and manner of our
death. As a Christian, are you ready to face death? What are your preparations for
your death for we do not know the time of our death?
Let’s face the reality that when we die the responsibilities of our death will fall to
our relatives and if we don’t have insurance plans it may be a burden to them and you
may not leave in peace.
But more importantly I had to make God part of daily life and pray regularly, ask
his help, thank him, ask for his forgiveness. Return often to the Sacraments of the
Eucharist, Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick if necessary because as a Christian
at the hour of our death preparing Spiritually is a must.
