A TRIBUTE TO THE TEACHER

We held their hands the first day of school.

Our hearts were filled with pride.

There was an aura of fear and apprehension

As we stood close to their side.

We deposited our children at your door,

Our most precious and prized possessions.

We trusted that you would give them more

Then Reading and Writing lessons.

Our unspoken words were, give them self-worth.

They are little children, respect their rights.

Teach them with love and remember compassion.

Use a firm hand to break up their fights.

As the years went by, you did us proud

With your guiding hand and understanding smile.

You gave much more than we expected.

That was your way, your undeniable style.

What higher tribute can we pay a teacher?

To what greater heights can he ascend?

Than to have his students praise his work,

And to say "He is my friend."

MAINTANING CLASSROOM DISCIPLINE

Classroom management has been defined as “the administration or direction of

activities with special reference to such as discipline, democratic technique, use of
supplies and reference materials, the physical feature of the classroom, general
housekeeping and the social relationship of the pupils.”
Three meanings are commonly associated to discipline. One common meaning is
that “punishment”. A second is that of “control by enforcing obedience or orderly
conduct”. A third common meaning is that of “training that corrects and strengthens”.
Everyday concepts of discipline such as those are based partly on sound principles and
partly on wishful thinking. For example, it is true that the students need control and
direction, but it is unlikely that they can learn self- control and self- direction if they are
controlled and directed all time and at every turn.
There seems to be a variety of opinions among teachers and school administrator/
supervisors on the question of how much control and direction students should have. This
is general agreement, however, the students should learn to discipline themselves and
thus grow up to become adults who are responsible, law abiding, considerate of the
welfare of others and able to carry on the important responsibilities of life in the face of
frustration, tempting distractions, and other difficulties. How can we help students
develop these qualities? One answer to this question is that schools should help students
develop self- discipline by teaching them such values and tradition such as fair play,
respect for the opinions of others, freedom to search for truth, and the right of weaker and
subordinate officials to be heard.

GUIDELINES IN MAINTAINING DISCIPLINE

1. Know your subject matter and well- prepared.

2. Stand at the door of your classroom or be in the room when students arrive for
class
3. Call the class to order as soon as the bell ring.
4. Follow an established routine every day until students learn to follow it
automatically.
5. Have all needed materials and equipment ready for use so you do not waste
student’s time getting things arranged.
6. Walk around the room whenever possible to make sure all students are doing
what they are supposed to be doing.
7. Check on the previous day’s assignment promptly. If you ignore it or give a little
importance, so will your students.
8. Make it clear to students that you expect them to work.
9. Allow a reasonable amount of time for special activities. When pupils have just
received their yearbooks, for example, do not create a situation whereby they
must sneak them to each other throughout the class period to obtain autographs.
By assigning ten minutes at a convenient point for circulating the books openly
you will no doubt retain pupil’s attention for the reminder of the period.
i. Avoid the use of threats, if threatened, pupils often feel challenged
to see how far they can go before you carry out your treat.
10. Provide for some change of pace during each class period.
11. Keep your sense of humor.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT AND TECHNIQUES

Good classroom management depends on the teacher, the teachers create the
atmosphere of learning therefore carefulness and alertness is highly- required.
Knowing the name of the pupils in one way to have snappy teaching learning
situations, pupils are happy learning their name, so as a teacher she could possessed this
kind of attitude in order to gain the confidence of ever pupils even the most timid as well
the slowest pupils in class.
A teacher must prepare a well- planned lesson suited to the ability of the pupils
with accompanying devices to lovely and effective teaching. While teaching, a teacher
should smile once at a time, so that the pupils will not be afraid rather they will be
encouraged to participate in class discussion. In the development of the lesson, every
child’s contribution should be accepted. The questions should be distributed so that every
pupil should participate in the discussion. Giving applause and praises to every pupils
should be developed and maintained by the teacher, and never discouraged the one who
will give answer by rather direct the student to get the right answer.
A teacher should be fair in every aspect, regardless in family background, mental
ability, sex and others. Therefore playing exciting ongoing experiences firm the pupils
and never forget to give them success which will lead them to attain their goals in life.

HISTORY OF CAMILING COLLEGES

CAMILING COLLEGES was born as CAMILING JUNIOR COLLEGE in June,

1946, a few days before the whole nation witnessed the racing of the Philippine Flag – As
since then fly’s alone in the sky – a symbolic gesture of our country’s re-acquisition of
independence from foreign rule.

CAMILING JUNIOR COLLEGE was a brain child of a civic – Camileños,

GILBERTO P. ROMULO, The younger brother of Brigadier General CARLOS P.
ROMULO, one of the greatest men Camiling has ever produced.

Mr. Gilberto P. Romulo not only served as one of the founders of Camiling Junior
College. He was elected as its first president and continued to serve in the same capacity
till his death. He devoted his entire life promoting quality education in his beloved
hometown.

The birth of this College was not sole of Mr. Gilberto P. Romulo. He was assisted
by his equally energetic fellow – incorporators and founders whose initiative and
foresight were to benefit countless pupils and students in the past and for generations yet
to come. In 1946, these men, incorporators and founders, of unique breed, pioneers all,
were as follows

PRESIDENT – MR. GILBERTO P. ROMULO

VICE – PRESIDENT – ATTY. BARTOLOME C. DOMINGO
SECRETARY – MR. MILANO G. PEREZ
TRESURER – DR. AMADO R. DIZON
MEMBERS – DR. CARLOS R KIPPING, SR.
MR. VIVENCIO A. BALAOING
MR. PIO O DIZON
MR. CASIMIRO BRILLIANTES
MR. FRANCISCO D. DOMINGO
MR. INCENCIO LACTAOEN

For three from its foundation, students of Camiling Junior College were housed

in three residential homes fronting the town plaza. This three rented homes were owned
by a generous and famous Doctor Adriano Cabrera; a notable wealthy old man, Mr.
Primo Cabrera; and a charitable and very benevolent fellow; Ms. Estanislao Martin. With
the early passing away of Dr. and Mrs. Adriano Cabrera, their spacious house and lot was
purchased by the college, thereby renovated into a three-floor building which became the
first main building for all its departments.

In 1949, after only three years of meteoric existence, Camiling Junior College was
renamed CAMILING COLLEGES. It initially offered the following courses:
4-Year Bachelor of Science in Education (BSE)
2-Year Junior Normal: Elementary Teacher Course (ETC)
2-Year Liberal Arts (Pre-Law)
1-Year General Clerical Course
6-Month Steno-Type Course
6-Month Dressmaking Course
Complete Secondary Course
Complete Elementary Course
Kindergarten Course
Mrs. Asuncion G. Romulo, The wife of President Gilberto P. Romulo was down
to earth disciplinarian and very meticulous in everything. She was then the Registrar-
Principal. She helped maintain complete laboratory facilities of the College. Other very
important athletic facilities were likewise maintained; so with drum-lyre-bugle
instruments, a piano, several drinking fountains, a sizable stage for literary-musical
presentations, and a well-furnished library to meet the exacting requirements for quality
education.
Likewise the ever – active and ever – concerned members of the board of
members of the board of trustees did all human means to have this College surface over
and above the competing schools in this part of the globe.
Tangibly notable in terms of expansion, starting in 1948, was the simultaneous
mushrooming of Camilng Colleges school branches in the three (3) adjacent towns of
Western Tarlac, namely, Sta. Ignacia Academy, Mayantoc High School, and San
Clemente High School. Up to now, these schools are equally growing, improving and
marching in cadence with other good schools in Central Luzon.

A worthwhile historic addition is historic men, Engr. Perpetuo M. Guzman and

Mr. Pio O. Dizon. They are Institutions themselves. Who will ever forget Engr. Perpetuo
M Guzman? He is a perfectionist! He is a durable and a never – to be – forgotten
instructor in Mathematics, Science particularly Physics, Dances, Drama, both in
secondary and tertiary departments of college – a manifestation of his being brilliant and
multi – talented in many ways. As the saying goes, “Always imitated but never equaled.”
In the late seventies, he was appointed the principal of the high school department, a
position held till 1990.
Mr. Pio O. Dizon was the first college registrar and he the prime mover that
helped and is still helping makes Camiling Colleges a great and famous institution.
Though a natural – born short fellow, he is an intellectual giant in the campus, for several
terms, he was elected Secretary of the Board of Trustees. He could not afford to waste
precious energy and moments in worry. He shies off the depressive thinkers filled with
shadows and doubts. He is a well – disciplined man, very punctual and never been absent
for illness. As educational consultant, he actually helped a many good students, teachers,
and parents. He, too, is a terrific combination of wit, wisdom and humor and keeps
people around him bubble with happiness. Six years short of his centennial year, he is
still very much around either physically as member of the board of trustees or in spirit.
In 1992, Mr. Mercurio Y. Mendoza, a retired public school district supervisor
took over the position as Assistant Administration Office for two years only due to
illness.

THE EXPANSION IN 1970

As one of the best and well – known educational institutions in the part of Tarlac ,
Camiling Colleges grew tremendously as regards is buildings, enrolment and school
facilities. There was an unprecedented increase in its enrolment and then College
President Gilberto P. Romulo found it imperative to construct more buildings in a new
campus in Palimbo in addition to its original three – storey building at Torres street near
the town plaza in 1970, the dream of expansion of the physical plan materialized through
the initiative of Mrs. Asuncion G Romulo. A new concrete building was inaugurated in
Palimbo amidst what used to be rice fields of Vice President, Bartolome C. Domingo,
one of the most prominent lawyers of Camiling Colleges, and decidedly well – to – do,
respected and trusted.

This new campus was to become the main campus three years later. Through the
years, the Palimbo campus expanded to meet the exigencies of the times. The torres
campus, on the other hand, would later be used exclusively by Camiling Colleges

FOUR SETBACKS OF THE COLLEGE

In 1970, Vice – President, Atty. Bartolome C. Domingo died, it was sudden blow,
an interruption of the progress of the campus. Thus, the void left by him was filled up by
Dr. Carlos Romulo Kipping, Jr. The only son of Mr. Carlos Rivera Kipping,Sr. And the
former Lourdes Pena Romulo. Elder sister of Brig. General Carlos P. Romulo, Dr. Carlos
P. Kipping, Jr. is Maria Clara;s only grandson.
The second setback was on August 24, 1972. It was the passing away of the
principal – registrar of the college, Mrs. Asuncion G. Romulo. In loving memory her, the
main building College in Palimbo was named after her.
The third setback unexpectedly happened on January 9, 1973 – just over a week
when every household welcomed advent of the New Year with the traditional firecrackers
and all the noise when then one – of – a – kind three – floor main building of Camiling
Colleges was razed to the ground caused by the fire that gutted the whole of it.
The board of trustees had to think and moved fast. Several big houses were rented
some tents were purchased which served as emergency classrooms of the displayed
students till graduation time in March, 1973. Summer, 1973 Prompted the board of
trustees to rush the construction of school buildings with forty – two classrooms to
accommodate students for school year 1973 – 1974 school opening. Two prominent and
distinguished Camileñias, Carlos P. Romulo and George Pena, a balikbayan immediately
came to the rescue to restore the library of the college by the donating two thousand five
hundred science, mathematics, history, literature and cultural book.
Collegiate classes are held in the evening partly due to lack of the classroom and
because most of them are working students.
The fourth and inevitable event came on May 8, 1991 when the revered College
President joined the innumerable caravan. His demise was so much of a loss for after
dedicating forty – four years of his life as living spirit of the rapid advancement of the
“HOUSE” he has built on a rock, his fatherly and professional presence is no longer
around.

In spirit, the great Gilberto P. Romulo is very much alive and real in the hearts of
all.
The years that were years jam packed with untold miseries cause by the terrible
and devastating earthquakes in 1990. Not long after, came the Mt. Pinatubo eruptions,
followed by ash falls, sand falls, typhoons, floods mudflows, lahar signals, etc.
You get a surprise of your life to know that his only son is very organized son. He
was reared in a wealthy home. Indeed, with a father and mother and two sisters packed
full of life, love and religiously.
Under the three years of active administration of President Carlos R. Kipping, Jr.
He furnished the college with three classrooms full of computer machines for students, a
nearly completed gymnasium, a Home Economic Building, five additional multi –
purpose classroom and face – lifted facade of the Asuncion G. Romulo Building. To date,
there are six offices, two laboratories, two libraries, two quadrangle, one medical and
dental clinic, a college canteen, ten drinking fountains, a fountain a backyard for CMT
drilling sports, and gardening, and then then comfort rooms. These and many more are
visibly in the campus, tangible proofs of his concern for the college.
There are more multi – faceted plans of the College President but lack funds
prevents him to move fast. Furthermore the GOLDEN JUBILEE FOUNDATION
ANNIVERSARY will be celebrated on the second week of February, 1996 which entails
the hustles and bustles of activities. One of the highlights of this once – in – a lifetime
affairs is the President’s clarion call for all alumni to come home and share in rejoicing;
for they are part of his institution – what they were, what they are and what they will be
could be traced to their grass roots – their Alma Mater, The CAMILING COLLEGES.

November 09, 2016/Wednesday. This was my first official day as a student

teacher for I was able to experience how to teach in a real classroom setting. I arrived in
school thirty minutes early before my first subject. I checked my room assignment and
asked the assigned cleaners to clean before the class will start. It was my time to meet the
rest of the students of Ma`am Shalilih. I explained to them that I will be with them for a
month while Mrs. Banaga is on leave. Our lesson for the whole day was the continuation
of the cause and effect relationship. As for my next period, the students told me that they
have an assignment given by Ma’am Shalilih about cause and effect relationship so we
checked it. I observed that most of them got low scores so I decided to give them another
set of examples while giving further explanation. By eleven in the morning, I proceeded
to my advisory class assignment and gave them “The Dos and Don’ts” for the grade 8
convocation. By 2:30 in the afternoon, we all proceeded to the gymnasium and attended
the grade 8 convocation program .The theme was: “Sari Saring Sayaw Sama-Samang
Galaw Pilipinas Tumanglaw”. I enjoyed the whole program especially the entertaining
performances they showed.

November 10, 2016/Thursday. Our next lesson was the elements of short story.
Before the discussion started, I asked my students to give titles of short stories that they
have already read and asked one student to narrate one from those stories given. I
discussed the elements of the short story, then after that we read a short story entitled
who was the Rajah’s Son? After discussion, I asked my students to find out the
characters, setting, theme, plot and conflict from the short story that we have read. For
their assignment, I asked them to read a short story of their choice and I asked them to do
the same thing, to find out the elements of short story.

November 11, 2016/Frisday. Every Friday, 7 Ipil-Ipil had only one subject, the
Edukasyon sa Pagpapakatao. We used that time to organize the room and to decorate the
the bulletin board display. We also asked them for whatever concerns they have.

November 14, 2016/Monday. The Flag Raising Ceremony almost covered an

hour because of the memos and announcements made by Sir Billy. After that, we all
proceeded to our respective classrooms. We checked the assignments first then after that
we finished our entry for the parol making contest.

November 15, 2016/Tuesday. First period was allotted for the advisory class, we
displayed our entry for the parol contest held by the school. For the second period, we
had a discussion about the last story that we have read. There were some students who
were actively participating in the discussion. I used the Socratic method of teaching or
the question and answer. With this kind of strategy, I could easily determine the students
who have potentials.

November 16, 2016/Wednesday. Our next topic was about the soft C and G and
the hard C and G, I asked my students to read the examples found on their book. Some of
them cannot read very well so I advised them to practice more in reading. I also asked
them to answer the exercise on their book.

November 17, 2016/Thursday. It was the class pictorial of all year levels.
Ma’am Shalilih was on her maternity leave, with the acknowledgement of other advisory
teachers, I substituted her in the class pictorial of grade 7 section Ipil-Ipil. I was honored
to join the pictorial.

November 18, 2016/Friday. Together with my co-intern, Anamarie, we were

advised to coordinate with Ma’am Carissa Junio, our co-English teacher for grade 7 to
accomplish the second periodical examination paper of grade 7 students. After that, we
asked Ma’am Carissa Junio’s comments and recommendation. She said that she was
satisfied with it so we passed it to Mr. Joshua Bacnis for printing.

November 21, 2016/Monday. In the Flag Raising Ceremony, Sir Billy

announced the schedule of the second periodical examination. It also covered all his
concerns about the discipline of the students. He also tackled the school policies and rules
and regulations. I didn`t meet my first period so I just proceeded to my next class. I gave
a short quiz about our last lesson.

December 02, 2016/Friday. Anamarie and I had a meeting with the Ipil- Ipil
class, we planned for the celebration of Christmas Party, discussed the activities to be
made, foods to eat, the contribution and other related issues concerning the party. It was a
very heavy week but despite of it, I really learned a lot not just academically but also
socially as well because I learned to adjust myself to the people I am with.

December 05, 2016/Monday. After the Flag Raising Ceremony, as per

announced, they had their quiz. I told the students to keep calm because the quiz was
easy. The scope was to identify the prefix, suffix and the root word. For their assignment,
I asked them to read the poem 1986 from their book.

December 06, 2016/Tuesday. I discussed the poem 1986 and the K-W-L charts.
While discussing, I asked them to take down notes what they know about our topic and
the things that they wanted to know about our topic. After discussion, I asked them what
they have learned about our topic.

December 07, 2016/Wednesday. To determine if the students have retained what

they learned, I gave them a quiz about the poem 1986. The type of exam that I made was
identification and essay type. After checking, I saw numerous misspelled words in their
essay so I advised them to read often to encounter the correct spelling of words. High-
Technology has a huge effect to this problem, at an early age, kids spent lots of their time
online or playing gadgets instead of opening their books.

December 08, 2016/Thursday. I gave a surprise spelling quiz, it was only ten
items and I took the words from the poem that we have tackled, to check if they
remembered my advice last meeting. I introduced our new topic about interrogative
pronouns.
December 09, 2016/Friday. Together with the students, we decorated our room
with different decorations made from recycled materials.

December 12, 2016/Monday. After the Flag Raising Ceremony, Sir Billy
announced the winner in the parol making contest and activities for the next two weeks
such as the Christmas Party and Third Preliminary Examination. Sir Billy instructed us to

sentences using the different interrogative pronouns. For the evaluation, I gave them a
short quiz regarding our topic. I also announced that they will be having a graded
recitation next meeting.

December 14, 2016/Wednesday. As planned, they had a graded recitation on this

day. I prepared questions written in the pieces of paper, I called them one by one to
answer. I observed that some of them cannot create even a simple sentence. Most of the
students got the answers correctly. At 1:30 in the afternoon we all proceeded to the
gymnasium and attended the Grade 9 Convocation Program. I enjoyed all the
performances and I appreciated all the efforts that they had given

. December 15, 2016/Thursday. Our new lesson was letter writing. I discussed
the different parts of the letter. It was an easy topic because they told me that they had
already tackled this in their Filipino subject under Ma’am Lugo. I gave board work
activity to make the discussion lively. For the evaluation, I asked the students to write a
friendly letter. It was a memorable topic because unexpectedly some students wrote a
letter for me. To be acknowledged and to be appreciated by your students was a truly
great feeling.

celebration of Christmas Party of the high school teachers.

SUMMARY OF TEACHING EXPERIENCES

Nothing beats experience as the perfect learning tool. This internship program

served as my stepping stone to pursue my dream of becoming a Future Educator. This

program gave me an inspiration to be more serious and focused I everything I do.

Despite the short period of my practice teaching, it was still a very meaningful

one. Practice teaching enriched my confidence created a foundation of being a good and

effective teacher someday. It caused a very huge effect to me as a Bachelor of Secondary

Education Student. I was really renewed.

Before my practice teaching, my knowledge about teaching strategies was only

limited and encapsulated from the books content. With the guidance of my cooperating

teacher, Mrs Shalilih Ann Banaga, I was able to look deeper into it and discovered the

various teaching strategies. I never thought that I couldn’t handle the seventh grader, but

when reality strike I clearly saw that it is somehow hard to manage those petite beings. I

learned the “reward and punishment method” in order to handle my class. It made me

realized all the hardships and sacrifices of my former teachers.

I became a Game Master of my own game show. I prepared educational games

for my students for them to be enticed with the topic. I became an actress for a short

period of time. I presented myself confidently in every class appearances. And even

though I am not feeling well or I am not in good mood to teach I still acted like there is

no problem. Like an actress, the class must go on in spite of any interruptions.

Practice teaching made me realize that it is really good to know what you’re

doing, and to love it. It is also very warm to the heart to know that you have

accomplished something and even warmer when there are people who are so proud of

what you have done. It inspired me to be more determined and competitive in everything

that I do.

RECOMMENDATION

“Lesson planning is the bible in teaching, when you are in the right path, all the hardship

will be worthy”

As a teacher you have to be just like a scout, ready in every situation, has a

solution in every problem, has an answer in every question and always full of confidence

every time of the day. You can make that possible if you have a good habit of planning

your lessons. It requires effort and seriousness. You have to give time and to take it

seriously as it can be a powerful tool that you can use inside and outside the classroom.

Teaching is like going to a battlefield, everyday is another day, unending struggles and

challenges. To overcome all these things, a teacher need to get out of his/her comfort

zone and explore endless possibilities in making learning and teaching easier. Make

learning enjoyable, students learned more when they are happy, that’s what tattooed on

my mind after four months of handling grade seven students.

CONCLUSION

Teaching is indeed a noble profession because teachers must go an extra mile in

order to deliver quality learning to their students. It is a kind of job that many have

ventured but only few has managed to fulfill the real duty. Teaching is a profession that

extends beyond the realms in the four corners of the classroom. In teaching we Impose

discipline and strict compliance with the school’s policy but at the same time we also

show mercy and compassion towards our students. In teaching, we don’t just teach, we

care.

“Okay, so these were the adjectives that
we used: beautiful, taller, tallest, more
intelligent, most interesting, most
expensive, healthier, largest, worse,
sunnier, tidiest, good, heavier, biggest, and
dangerous.”
“These adjectives were used not just to
describe but also to compare. When we use
adjectives to compare persons and things,
we are said to be using the degrees of
comparison. This morning we will find out
the proper way of using them.

Discussion
“Let us go back to the first three
sentences, will you read them” 1. Maine Mendoza is
beautiful.
2. Sonny is taller than his
brother.
3. Mount Everest is the
highest mountain in the
world.

“What is the adjective in the first “Ma’am the adjective in the first

“On the second sentence, what is the “Ma’am the adjective in the

“How about on the third sentence, what is “Ma’am the adjective in the third

Who was described in the sentence?” “Ma’am Maine Mendoza was

that?”

“Let us proceed to the rules in forming the

degrees of comparison”

“The first rule is for most adjectives with

one syllable the comparative degree if
formed by adding –er and the superlative
degree is formed by adding –est to the
positive form.”

Example: tall, taller, tallest

clean, cleaner, cleanest

“Who wants to give another set of example “strong, stronger, strongest”

under this rule?”

“The second rule is for one syllable

adjective that ends with a consonant-
vowel-consonant, the last consonant is
doubled before adding –er and –est to form
the comparative and superlative degree.”

COLLEGIATE DEPARTMENT

Example: thin, thinner, thinnest

Red, redder, reddest

“Who wants to give another example?” “big, bigger, biggest”

“Take note class, there is an exemption to

this rule. If the last consonant is “W” like
slow, low and few, we have to follow the
first rule instead. Is that clear class?” “Yes Ma’am!”

“Let us proceed to the third rule, for

adjectives ending in “E” the comparative
degree is formed by adding –r and the
superlative degree is formed by adding –st
to the positive degree.”

Example: wise, wiser, wisest “Ma’am large, larger, largest”

Close, closer, closest

“Will you give another example of

adjectives under this rule?”

“Let us proceed to the fourth rule, for

adjectives ending in “Y” with a consonant
preceding it, “Y” is first changes to “I”
before adding –er and –est to the positive
form.”

Example: noisy, noisier, noisiest

Busy, busier, busiest

“Who will give another example?” “lazy, lazier, laziest”

“The fifth rule is for adjectives ending in

“Y” with a vowel preceding it, add –er and
–est are simply added to the positive
degree.”

Example: grey, greyer, greyest

gay, gayer, gayest

“For the sixth rule (a.)Most adjectives of

two syllables with the accent on the first
syllable and (b) all adjectives of more than
two syllables are compared using more and
most before the adjectives to indicate a
higher degree of comparison. Less and
least are added before the adjectives to
indicate a lower degree of comparison.”
