What’s in
Learning Task 1. Read the following situation below and answer the questions that follow. In
answering the questions try to apply the social norms you remember in your Values/ESP
subject.
A very good friend of yours visited you and your family in your house. Your mother who
was delighted by her presence cooked her best dish for your friend. Your friend loved the
whole lunch that she kept complimenting your mother for being such a good cook. At the end
of her visit, she expressed her gratitude to the whole family. Before she left, she approached
your mother and asked, “how much do I pay you for the lunch you cooked for me?
Questions:
1. Was there something wrong with the friend’s response to your mother’s
hospitality?
~The first thing that comes to my mind, I feel offended by his/her questions to my
mother. Though, in practical terms, it's an opportunity to have some income, the way my
friends talk to my mother was offensive. And there's something wrong with my friend's
response to my mother's hospitality, Maybe it's about choosing the right words
2. What made this reaction awkward for you?
~It's a little bit awkward in the part of asking my mother about how much. But in real life,
mostly my friends are not like that, or they know how to respond respectfully to my
mother's hospitality.
3. By making a reference to the society where you belong, what is your initial
response upon reading the situations?
~My initial response upon reading this is I think that friend is rich ,so she/he came up
with the idea that she/he can pay my mother to cook for him/her. Though maybe,
he/she's being overwhelmed by my mother's cooking skills.

transformed human relations.
In my own perspective, Human relations become stronger when there's
communication. Communication is one of the keys to improve or strengthen
relationships, the more time you spend talking to someone, the more you know about
him/her. Facebook and Social Media really helps the relationship to get stronger or
healthy because even if you are near or far away, all you need to do is to open your data

as time went by.

her upbringing, beliefs and overall quality of life. Take a sample from your personal
experience.
Based from wikipedia, The social environment, social context, sociocultural context or
milieu refers to the immediate physical and social setting in which people live or in which
something happens or develops. It includes the culture that the individual was educated or lives
in, and the people and institutions with whom they interact.
There's a saying that, "Tell me your friends and I will tell you who you are." That means
normally, The people who have relationships with you have a huge influence on your life, the
way you talk, act , and live in everyday lives. That's why when it comes to choosing friends, I
have standards. I'll make sure that there's existence in my life will have a positive effect on me
and I'll also make sure that I'll be a good friend to them and help them to develop themselves
how to be a human person.
