English Club Constitution

October 15, 2007

Article 1

Section 1
This organization shall be known as the English Club.

Section 2
The purpose of this club will be to provide:

The opportunity to establish relationships among NC State University students interested


in English.

The opportunity to establish relationships between students and faculty.

Students with information about future careers and opportunities related to English
studies.

Opportunities for community service related to skills acquired through English studies.

A forum for open discussion.

Article 2

Section 1
Membership shall be open to any student enrolled at NC State University who is
interested in what was afore mentioned in Article 1, Section 2.

Section 2
Means of selection of members: membership is open to any student enrolled at NC State
University. Members will be asked to participate in at least one of the committees.

Article 3

Section 1
The elected undergraduate officers for this club shall be the…
President: primary faculty liaison, leads meetings, controls listserv.
Vice President: serves as the CHASS council representative, coordinates with committee
leader contact, serves as presidential backup.
Secretary: records minutes at all meetings, documents all club activities, compile a yearly
archive.
Treasurer: collects, records, and deposits membership dues, handles club’s accounting
(treasurer and faculty advisor shall be the only members who can allocate funds).
Committee Chairs: heads his or her committee, handles committee meetings and that
committee’s activities.
Faculty advisor: oversees all club activities, oversees and approves allocation of funds,
maintain a permanent archive (the faculty advisor is not an elected position).

Section 2
The core officers (president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer) shall be elected by
the club members to serve a term of one year beginning after the final meeting of the
spring semester. These elections shall be held at the final meeting of the spring semester.
The committee chairs will be elected for a one-semester appointment at the final meeting
of the previous semester.

Election will take place when a candidate receives a majority of votes of members
present at the election meeting. Run-off elections will take place between the two
candidates with the most votes.

Article 4

Section 1
Dues consist of $7.00 per member per semester or $10.00 per member per year.

Article 5

Section 1
Amendments to the constitution or by-laws shall be presented by members of the club in
writing and read at a regular meeting but shall not be voted upon until the next regular
meeting, and then only after informing each member of the proposed amendments. A
two-thirds majority of the members voting and present shall be required to pass any
amendment.

Article 6

Section 1
The club shall normally meet bimonthly depending on the number of scheduled activities.

The day and time will be determined by a club membership vote at the last meeting of the
previous semester.

Location will be dependent on availability of space.

Article 7

Section 1
Funding Committee: This committee will seek to acquire funds from outside sources
through fundraising and soliciting.
Outreach Committee: This committee will publicize the club through flyers, peer-to-peer
activities. This committee is responsible for a Web master, who is either the committee
chair or an appointed committee member.

Meeting Organization Committee: This committee will invite speakers, plan activities,
organizing food for events and execute necessary activities for meetings.

Community Service Committee: This committee will organize and execute volunteer
activities for the membership.

The club shall make provision by two-thirds vote of the members voting and present for
any standing or special committees as needed.

Any special articles needed by the club shall be included here.
