Use MS Excel/MATLAB to do the assignment

1. The mid-ship section of a vessel given in Assignment – 4 is as given below.

a. Compute the 2nd moment of area of the section with respect to the neutral axis.
b. Calculate the section modulus w.r.t the keel and the deck.
c. Assume that the above mid-ship section is for the vessel (the rectangular barge that you
analyzed in Assignment 4), use the value of bending moment at the mid-ship section and
hence find the bending stress at the keel and at the deck.
