Rhyme Book Dice Game

This document provides a lesson plan for a two-day rhyming activity with kindergarten students. On the first day, students will play a rhyming dice game and then color and add their photo to a class rhyming name book. On the second day, students will play the rhyming dice game again and then the teacher will read the completed rhyming name book aloud. The goal is for students to practice rhyming words and participate in creating a collaborative rhyming book. Assessment will be informal based on students' ability to produce rhyming words in the dice game.

Dice Game (same for both days) Time

 Have students sit in a circle- show them the dice and go over the pictures.
 Tell them that each person will get a turn to roll the dice, and your job
will be to say a word that rhymes with it!
 Be sure to make it clear that when someone rolls the dice, the rest of our 12 min
friends should have their voices off
 As Ss roll the dice, write down the words they said
 Each kid will have a turn- they can choose a friend to pass the dice too

Rhyming Book- Day 1 Time

 Once we finish our rhyming game, show Ss the book pages we will be
working on today
 Tell them that we are going to create a rhyming name book! Today your
jobs will be to use your BEST kindergarten colouring to colour the turtle- 3 min
using realistic colours (should a turtle be green?? NO! Turtles are usually
greens and browns!), then you will glue your picture onto the page and
write your name!
Body Time
Book Pages  Call Ss to come and get their picture and book
page. They should drop these off at their table
and then go get a pencil and crayons.
 They will write their name on the line, then
colour in the turtle. 15 min
 When they are done, they will put their hand up
and they can have some playdough time!
 Be sure to circulate around the room and make
sure Ss are on track
Conclusion Time
 Let Ss know that I am going to put all of our book pages together and
1 min
we will read the story together on Thursday!

Rhyming Book- Day 2 Time

 After the dice game, do a rhyming body break with Ss so they can get
moving after our dice game
 Once they are settled show them the book and read through it! 15 min
 Depending on time, you can pause at each page and see if the kids can
predict which kid’s picture will be behind the flap book!

Assessment:
 The only assessment for these lessons will be around the dice game- it will be formative
to see how they do with producing rhymes.

Teacher Notes:

2
 Laminate ALL pages on Tuesday at school
 Cut and get them ready for Wednesday- on Wednesday you can bind the books pages
together!

Reflection: How did the lesson go? Is there anything you would do differently next time? What
worked well/ not so well?
