IMMACULATE CONCEPTION HIGH SCHOOL
REGULATIONS FOR ADMISSION TO GRADE 12
BEGINNING SEPTEMBER 2018
Sixth Form at Immaculate Conception High School is more than just an opportunity to prepare for CAPE
examinations and for entry to university. Sixth form is the time when our students develop strong
leadership qualities, a greater sense of responsibility, a commitment to volunteerism as well as
dedication to hard work academically. An ICHS Sixth Former is a student leader, a role model and a
dedicated scholar. Entry to Sixth Form is therefore not automatic. Each student selected must
demonstrate that she has the potential to grow and develop these qualities. The student does not have
to be perfect but she should be someone who, over the years, has shown a regard and respect for the
values and rules of the school.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
1. The student must be recommended by her Grade 11 teachers as being capable of coping with
Advanced Level work and the lifestyle in Grades 12 and 13. This also means that the student’s
attitude and general conduct must be considered to have been of satisfactory standard by all her
teachers. The student will be subject to a complete review of both academic performance and
general conduct at the end of Grade 12. If the student is found to be unsatisfactory in any
aspect, she may be asked to discontinue the course.
2. The student must have the intention of spending two academic years in preparation for
CXC’S CARIBBEAN ADVANCED PROFICIENCY EXAMINATIONS (CAPE).
3. The student must have attained a high academic standard up to the present time.
4. The student should have obtained at least five (5) distinctions (Grade 1 passes) in CSEC.
5. The student must have attained Grade 1 in the CSEC General Proficiency, in the subjects she wishes
to offer at CAPE and the recommendation of the subject teacher that she has the proper
attitude.
6. The student is required to have Grade 1 or 2 in English Language CSEC General .
7. The student should be able to offer three (3) subjects for examination at CAPE as well as
Communication Studies in Grade 12 and Caribbean Studies in Grade 13.
8. The student who is permitted to do a fifth subject will be assessed in November prior to
registering for the CAPE examinations and approval granted for her to sit all five exams.
