1. TITLE

Procedure for cable pulling

2. SCOPE

This procedure is to describe the minimum requirements for cable


installation during receiving of materials, storing, fabrication and Installation
work.

3. OBJECTIVE

This is to assure that the requirements of electrical installation works are


meets the codes requirements and contract specifications. To make sure,
the works are carried out in acceptable workmanship and follow the
requirements in the quality manual.

5.1 The Electrical Engineer at site shall be responsible for the planning
scheduling and coordination, record and monitor progress of electrical
works. To guide the supervisors in the field in terms of engineering
and technical problems.

5.2 The Electrical Superintendent shall be responsible for the daily


construction activities to coordinate with Area Supervisors and
support The Supervisors in terms of technical matters.

5.3 The Electrical Supervisors shall be responsible to the respective


superintendents and carry out the direct field activities through the
skilled and unskilled workers according to the installation procedures
and drawings and applicable procedures for electrical installations.

6. WORK PROCEDURE

6.1 GENERAL

1. The field installation, inspection and test of electrical facility shall


be executed under the responsibility of contractor according to the
relevant drawings and documents specified in paragraph 4.0.

2. The work shall be done according to good workmanship and by


using the suitable tools and material as stated in the construction
drawings, approve documents, and procedures and it shall be
studied before carry out any electrical works.

3. Field Engineers will ensure that they are in possession of the


following documents, prior to the commencement of the works:

Full care and pre-caution shall be given by the field management
for the safety and sanitation of workman in the field to prevent
accidents during execution of the works.

6.2 INSTALLATION OF CABLE

General

a) Cup the cable tip with PVC insulation tape for water protection.
Mark the cable end according to cable number and wrap the
marking with transparent tape to prevent loosing the mark.

b) Cable shall be run in one length. Cable should pulling in the same
layer according to the cable routing drawing.

c) If Cable run close and parallel to hot pipe lines or high


temperature surface, a 300 mm minimum clearance shall be
maintained.

d) Transfer the cable drums from warehouse and pool into near
starting point of pulling. Number of drums to be pull shall prepare
at least required number of pulling for one day pulling schedule,
considering the space of location.

e) Cable drum shall be mounted on cable pulling stand. Sufficient


cable roller shall be installed in pulling cable. A swivel shall
always be inserted in the pull-in line to prevent twisting of the line
being drawn in.

f) The pulling tension shall be limited within the value recommended


by the cable manufacturer.

g) Cables on the cable trays / ladders shall be fastened securely to


transverse members of cable trays / ladders.

h) Bending radius of the cable shall be in accordance of the


manufacture installation guide.

i) The cables must not be laid directly on the floor. Minimum height
from the floor is 300 mm.

j) Before the terminal all the cables from the tray / ladder shall be
supported and clamped.

k) For single core cables on the same feeder, it must be arranged in


such manner so the cable with same phase are placed side by
side : RST – TSR – RST

Petroleum base grease shall not be used for lubricating of wires and
cable.

6.3 PREPARATION AND PRECAUTION FOR CABLING

a) All necessary precautions shall be taken to protect cable from


damage during installation.

b) Provide an adequate and suitable access to the cable trays /


ladders for install cables.

c) Cables shall be laid on the cable routing in a workmanlike manner.


Any visible damage to the cables during installation shall be
reported to the representative of Owner or Client.

d) Take all necessary precaution to assure that open trenches are


adequately barricaded or marked to avoid being a personnel
safety hazard.

e) Maintained excavated areas in manner to prevent entering of


surface water. Any water that does accumulate in an excavation
shall be removed continuously.

f) If excavation needed, hand excavation shall be required around


any underground piping or other below grade facilities.

g) After the cable being pulled and laid on the cable ladder, the cable
shall be properly secured with cable-tie to the rung of cable ladder
at the distance of max 1 m at horizontal laying and max 0.5 m at
vertical laying.

h) All document related to pulling cable work should be collected


before start of work.

- Cable route drawing for power/control cable


 This drawing indicates the route of cable to be pulled
from the origin to the destination.
- Cable schedule
 This cable schedule indicates cable identity to be pulled
from the origin to the destination.
- Cable drum schedule
 This document indicates tag number cable drum,
specification of cable, quantity of cable.
i) Before pulling the cable, all the cable drum must be supported.

7. SAFETY

 Before installation work, supervisor have to make coordination with


safety department. JSA/HIERAC shall be available on site when job is
on going
 Workmen wear proper PPE (helmet, safety shoes, safety belt, hand-
glove etc.).

 Safety line should be installed around excavation soil (for direct


buried cable system).
 Safety sign board on the pulling cable work area.
