To Whom It May Concern:
During her student teaching assignment, I had the pleasure of observing Denni in the
classroom on 6 separate occasions. We also met for seminars, meetings, and professional
development 5 times throughout the semester. Denni submitted all required university
coursework to me for evaluation, including completion of a PowerPoint portfolio documenting
her student teaching experience.
Miss Riley met regularly with her cooperating teacher to generate standards-based
lesson plans and kept a binder in the classroom detailing their weekly plans. She learned how
to use data-driven student assessments to design future lessons customized to the learners in
her classroom.
Denni demonstrated proficiency in her teaching using varied instructional strategies,
and she also incorporated multiple teaching tools and digital resources within her lessons. She
showed growth in her confidence to take command of the classroom and was eventually able
to take over some solo teaching. She continues to work on her classroom management skills
and with using effective academic and behavioral motivators to keep students engaged.
Perhaps the most impressive quality Miss Riley demonstrated during student teaching
was her calm, caring demeanor and rapport with students. Denni did an excellent job
connecting with the children in her classroom by allowing them time to share thoughts and
ideas. She gave ample wait-time during whole group instruction when students were
participating verbally, which is so important for young learners at the Kindergarten level. She
asked probing questions that helped students relate new topics to themselves on a personal
level. The students responded positively to her supportive nature, and it was evident they felt
comfortable taking chances to speak up and share in class.
Likewise, Miss Riley exhibited reliability by arriving on time to school every day,
conducting herself professionally, and collaborating with other teaching staff. I believe Denni
will continue to work hard at being an effective, confident teacher.
Sincerely,
