Directions: Read the moral dilemmas carefully and answer the questions therein. (3 items x 10 points)
1. Mariella has been offered to judge in a variety show. She is very excited because it was her
dream. Unfortunately, it is terribly unfair to other contestants because her sister is part of the
show and will perform on the day that she will judge. Should she accept the offer and allow
herself to benefit from an unfair situation or think about the other contestants?
I would say that she should not accept the offer for the sake of the greater good. One
situation can lead to moral dilemma if you need to decide what is good for everyone rather
for yourself. Of course, it will be hard for her to turn down the offer but then, it will be
unfair for her sister and other contestants if she will be the judge. Even if she will judge
fairly, people will think that she favors her sister to win, if that’s the case, then the other
contestants will get angry for that. In the end, her dream will just turn into nightmare. It is
best for everyone if Marielle will not accept the offer and just wait for another better chance
for her to judge to avoid conflict.
2. Ericka was supposed to tell a certain guy that her best friend had a crush on him. Instead, she
ended up hooking up with the guy. And to make matters worse, she lied to her friend about it.
Should Ericka keep on lying to her friend or just continue her relationship with the guy? What's
she supposed to do?
Ericka should tell her friend the truth and to her boyfriend also. At the end of the day, they’ll
still know it so tell them the truth before the chance run out. It is the best for everyone to
know the truth as early as possible to avoid more conflict. Ericka should tell her best friend
the truth and say sorry for betraying her because she still did it even if she knew that her
friend has a crush on that certain guy. Also, she should tell her boyfriend the truth, it is up to
him if the relationship must go on or not. If the love is true, then they can continue it but if
the anger is much dominant, they should end it for the sake of both of them.
3. You are stumped on an important ethics test and you have the perfect opportunity to cheat
without getting caught. What will you do and how will you explain your decision?
Even if I have the perfect opportunity to cheat without getting caught, I will not do it. Why
would I risk my integrity for a simple test that I know I can answer by myself? Of course, I
will not do it because if I did then I will just making myself a fool for getting high scores
without putting effort and my true knowledge about it.
