The essence of my mid-term story is the same as my final story, but there are still differences

that I believe show improvement. For example, I noticed during the revision regime that my
story was really lacking imagery at all, and for the description of the crime scene I think it’s
important to have more detail, especially since it’s in the perspective of the detective. I also
noticed that in my third and fourth “chapters” the pace was a little slower, and it felt like it was
dragging, so I added a little spice at the end of the story with the phone call at the end. Besides
those two bigger changes, I feel like the rest of the edits I made during the revision regime were
very minor with subtle changes in detail and just overall grammar mistakes. I didn’t like the
work I had done when I had to rewrite the story, it just didn’t sit well with me either time, so
when reading the story you notice the changes are subtle.
One of the literary events I went to (Make Up Break Up) was able to give me a little insight
on dialogue and how to use it in a genuine way, so I tried to implement this in my owner writing.
That story was about a couple, so I obviously didn’t use the practices exactly the same for my
mystery story… but I was able to find that one of her tricks was to use nicknames to help
emphasis that there was an established relationship between the characters. I used this when
there was dialogue between Elijah and his partner to make it sound genuine and help
demonstrate that they knew each other well and for a while. I also used this method in my story
in a little different way to. I used it in the stalker’s point of view where I would have the stalker
use a nickname for Elijah to help show that she felt there was a solid relationship between the
two of them even though there was no direct dialogue to the other character.
Normally I would feel that I’m not a fan of writing at all, in any shape really. However, after
this semester my opinion on writing has changed a little bit. I have more of a mutual respect for
writing now, whereas before I just really disliked it. After having to go through the writing
process continuously and over and over, I give writing in general more credit than I ever have
before. I also give myself more credit too, because writing that much creatively when I’ve never
done that before was a lot. I think overall I just have more appreciation for writing and the
process of it that I definitely didn’t have. At the beginning of the semester, I would just blow off
writing, but now my thoughts are completely different.
I found that I do my best most productive and creative work after I do my morning routine.
So, I would wake up brush my teeth shower, brush my hair, eat breakfast, sit at my desk, and
write. ideally, I have the blinds open to let in all the sunlight if there is any, and I have a
smoothie or some kind of drink that makes me feel healthy. The smoothie part is very important,
because the better the breakfast the more prepared I felt. I took me a couple of weeks to find that
this is the best process for me, however, I can’t say I kept this up very well throughout the
semester. I would sometimes push writing back into later in the day-which was bad. When I
pushed writing back the quality and enthusiasm for writing significantly decreased. For the
future, I know to write in the morning with a full stomach and some sunlight.
I think a good writer goes about writing in any way that feels natural to them. For writing, I
think it’s whatever style you prefer, in whatever context you prefer is the best way a writing goes
about writing. And for how a good writing might go about the activity of writing, I’ve found
throughout the semester that the easiest and most productive way to write is to do it in the most
comfortable setting for that individual. For me it was mornings after I eat breakfast. I think at the
beginning of the semester I would’ve said a good writer goes about writing in a more of a strict
productive manner where they’re able to sit down and just write pages at a time whenever they
feel like it. And for the writing itself I would see it as some flowery intricate language that
flowed perfectly. Now I know that’s not the case.

I think this class affected me more than I thought it would since I don’t consider myself
much of a writer. However, after this class I do think my prospective has changed a bit. Before I
did absolutely no creative writing, unless assigned to. All the writing I did was for academic
purposes, so I would always write essays or research papers, never just given time to write
whatever I wanted. So, what’s next for me? I have no idea; I might continue working on my
stalker story and see how it ends, or I might just take a break from creative writing. However, it
maybe I do think I will use some of the lessons I’ve learned from this class in my academic
writing. For example, I now know not to use the dangerous method, and I also have the revision
regime to thank for new ways of going about
