Rational Statement- Standard #8 Instructional Strategies
Standard Eight: Instructional Strategies
The teacher understands and uses a variety of instructional strategies to encourage
learners to develop deep understanding of content areas and their connections, and to
build skills to apply knowledge in meaningful ways.
Artifact: Lesson Plan 2
Date of completion: 4/28/2021
Course completed in: EDUC-212-98V FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION
Rational Statement:
This artifact is a science based lesson plan based on experiments and
investigation or observations to describe and classify different kinds of materials by
their observable properties. In this lesson students learn to recognize the characteristics
of matter and differentiate between a solid, liquid or a gas substance. This artifact
relates back to standard 8.i.2 “ The teacher continuously monitors student learning,
engages learners in assessing their progress, and adjusts instructions in response to
student learning needs.” (Professional Development in New Jersey, 2014, p.10) standard
2.i.2 focuses on the teacher being able to move in between each experiment and help out
whenever needed during the duration of the lesson. Making sure all students are
engaged in the experiment and each other to come up with a conclusion and possible
reasons as to what happens and or why. To also be able correct students if necessary to
avoid any confusion and or accidents along with the duration of the lesson.
As a future teacher creating this lesson plan was fun because I got to explore and
learn different ways to teach about matter. The idea of the experiments came to me
when I was thinking of different ways to show the students the different characteristics
of matter and their states. Coming up with all the experiments was a struggle but at the
same time it made me eager to actually experience how the lesson would be like in an
actual classroom. Because I thought that sharing this particular lesson would be a fun
experience for the students as well for me as the teacher to be able to observe and see
the students learn with each experiment completed.
In the future I can refer back to this Lesson plan and use it to teach my current
students. I can also reflect and revise it so that anything that may not have worked out
in an actual classroom I can change it and make it better.
