● Writing and Drawing Paper
● Pencils
● Crayons
● Document camera

Plan for set-up/distribution/cleanup of materials:

● Students stay at their desks and we will pass out writing and drawing paper to them.
Students have crayons in their desks.

Step by Step plan (numbered):

1. Lesson beginning: We will begin by asking students if anyone knows what it means to
be kind. We will then ask if anyone has done anything kind today. We will call on
students who raise their hands and talk about why that may have been a kind action.
2. After the short discussion we will then read the book Be Kind by Pat Zietlow Miller
3. After reading the book we will tell students that we will now be writing and drawing
about different ways that we can show kindness.
4. We will pass out the drawing and writing paper and write the prompt “I can show
kindness by…” on the board. Students will first copy that down and then brainstorm
different ways that they would show kindness. They will raise their hand when they have
thought of it and we will come over so they can tell us and we will approve. Students will
begin writing their kind action using inventive spelling and help from us teachers. When
students are finished they will raise their hand and we will check their sentence and then
tell them to begin drawing their picture. We will tell them to take their time and draw lots
of detail.
5. Closure: To finish the lesson we will have students share their kindness actions and show
the class their pictures by presenting them on the document camera

Key Questions (that you will ask):

● What does it mean to be kind?
● How can you show someone kindness?
● How do you show kindness?
● Has anyone done anything kind today?

Logistics:
● Timing:
○ Lesson beginning: 5 minutes
○ Read Aloud: 15 minutes
○ Writing: 10-15 minutes
○ Closure: 5 minutes
● Transitions: N/A
● Classroom Management: To get students attention we will use the call and response
method that Mrs. Rickey uses. We will shout out, “All set” and the students will respond
with, “You bet.” This will show us that they are ready and paying attention.

Differentiation Notes:

● Content: All students will have the same content.

● Process: One student will have one of four teachers sitting with him at his desk during
the entire lesson to keep him focused, paying attention, and on task. He may need
assistance with writing. One other student will need occasional support. The rest of the
students will be fine with support from teachers as we walk by and check their progress.
Students are sufficient in writing and drawing.
● Product: Students will have different products. The ending of each students sentence will
be different and their picture that correlates will also be different.
