L02 Evaluating Function (2) Done

1. The lesson plan is for a general mathematics class and covers evaluating functions. 2. The objectives are for students to be able to evaluate functions and solve problems involving functions. 3. An example of evaluating the function f(x) = 4x^2 - 2x + 4 is shown, finding the values of f(2), f(1/3), f(0), and f(2m+1).

 UNDERSTANDING
II. OBJECTIVES:.
a.The learner is able to evaluate functions .
b. The learner is able to solve problems involving functions.
III. REFERENCE: Teaching guide for senior High School ( General Mathematics) pg12-14

a. Daily Routine
b. Simple Recall/ Review: Functions and relations
c. Motivation:
d. Development of the Lesson:

a. ACTIVITY: Concept Note #2

Evaluation of Function - a process of calculating the value of a function (y )
for given values of x. The y is the dependent variable while x is the
independent variable. The process is done by substituting the numerical
values of x to the given function.

Example1: If f(x) = 4x2 – 2x + 4, find the value of each of the following:

a. f(2) d. x = -1
1
b. f ( ) e. f(2m + 1)
3
c. x = 0
4
Example 2: Given f(x) = ( ), find the following value:
x
a. f(1)
b. f(-1)
c. f(2x)

b. ANALYSIS
Evaluate the following function:
Given f(x) = x-2 , find the following values
a. f(0)
b. f(3)
c. f(x-1)

c. ABSTRACTION
1. What is evaluation of function?
2. What is the process in evaluating a function?

d. ASSESSMENT #2
1. Given f(x) = √ x−3, find the following values:
a.f(3) = √(3) – 3
f(3) =√(1.7) – 3
f(3) = -1.26794919243
b. f(4) f= √(4) - 3
f(4) = √(2) – 3
f(4) = -1
c. f(12)= √(12) - 3
f(12)= √(3.4) – 3
f(12)= 0.464101615138
d. f(x-3)
