Personal Strategic Plan

As graduation draws near, my focus turns from homework, exams and projects to a

career, a family and a promising life. The next chapters of my life will surely come with their

own set of challenges, but the desire to succeed was instilled in me from a young age and

continues today. I have confidence that the classes, experiences and work know-how have

contributed to interpersonal and self-management skills; however, areas of improvement are

always present. My goals going forward will continue to change and develop, but my ultimate

dreams have yet to be realized.

Short-Term Goals: Now Through Graduation

With four years as a summer intern under my belt, I hope to maintain and grow my

relationship with UBS Financial Services’ managers with the intention of getting a full-time

position. This is my last semester at the University of Tennessee and with continued hard work

and dedication to learning, my goal of a GPA greater than 3.0 is nearly complete. I must

continue to make myself more marketable as future employee as well as a better individual by

provided me with real-world tools to succeed in interviews, time management and relationships

on competition in the job market.

Long-Term Goals: 5 Years From Now

Unfortunately, instant gratification is rare in life – real success is earned. In the next five

years, I aspire to attain a secure, moderately paying position within a premier firm. I want to

 find myself in positions that require action and tough choices that need to be made. With an

inherit need to succeed and my personal education background; I do not place a cap on my goals.

Over the next five years, I will also seek to begin my long-time dream of restaurant ownership by

studying culinary arts and continuing to work on the skills required to be an entrepreneur. At the

end of five years, I want to be a homeowner and begin to take an active role in the community

and lives around me. From coaching a team to participating in the local school board,

community involvement will be a key element in my continued personal growth. I look forward

to the days of tomorrow, but realize that my dreams and aspirations will not be gifted to me.

Assuming the leadership role in a group has never been an issue for me, but I often take

the reigns and run with my personal ideas while marginalizing others and generally ignoring

their input – this is something that must be overcome. I still find it difficult to let my ideas sit on

the back-burner, yet I have found that opening up to others and working toward the common

goal often leads to better outcomes for everyone. Additionally, I must strive to procrastinate less

and make decisions in a timelier manner. I really like to play with ideas in my head before

working to implement them. While procrastination is not always a bad thing, I often find myself

 pushing deadlines to the last minute and sometimes beyond. If I want to be as effective as

possible and reach my goals, these areas must be worked on.

Opportunities

My main opportunity right now is with UBS Financial Services. I fully intend on taking

a full-time position after graduation. The greatest opportunity began four years ago by

graduating high school and getting accepted into UT. My marketability was immediately

affected in the most positive way. Other opportunities include continued employment at Chick-

fil-A, which has the potential to lead to becoming a franchisee for the company. As previously

As comfortable as I am with my current status and where I am going, there are many

threats that could disallow me to reach my full potential. There are many, many college

graduates that will be entering the ever-declining workforce around the time I will. The overall

job climate over the next few years is grim. Perhaps the biggest threat to my success will be my

own drive. It was taken a lot to get to this point and will take much, much more to continue and

grow. It is my hope that my drive to succeed will continue and new opportunities will continue

to reveal themselves.

 personally and professionally. The invaluable tools will not only give me an advantage while

searching for a job, but have molded me into a more effective leader and manager. I must

continue to work hard and not let threats minimize opportunities, nor weaknesses outweigh

strengths. It will be my goal going forward to continue my education and development to

become a business owner, family man, and better citizen. Ultimately, I will do what needs to be

done to get where I want to be.
