Vegetable Trading
I. POSSIBLE SOURCES OF VEGETABLES:
1. Trading Posts: Farmers all around Benguet come over to trading posts should they not have any
direct wholesale buyers going to their farmers. Due to the reason that the goods are perishable,
trading posts help a lot in a “fast” disposal of their produce. Mountain Province and Ifugao
more often have smaller market which are the local palengke in each municipality or they bring
to the next provinces.
a. La Trinidad Trading Post (more than 500 sole proprietorship traders and
cooperatives where farmers and buyers trade with. Farmers go sell to the traders
then leave, buyers come along and buy from them (wholesale buyers and retails
buyers)
b. Benguet Agri Producers Traders Center (There are about 300 traders who are
accredited by the DA and the BSU and the BAPTC who can make use of the facilities.
c. Nueva Vizcaya Trading Post (perhaps the same as the others) products produces are
onions, garlics. They trade a mixture of lowland and highland vegies (area is a
mixture of highland on the Benguet side and at times easier for them to bring their
produce versus La Trinidad).
2. Organized Farmers Cooperatives / Associations
a. Organic Farmers in Benguet
b. GAP (General Agriculture Practice) Accredited Farmers
c. Regular Farmers organization / associations / cooperatives (need further investigation per
farmer if vegetables are chemical laden.
