Course Rationale:
Logistics Management is the part of supply chain management that plans, implements, and controls the
efficient, effective forward and reverse flow and storage of goods, services, and related information between
the point of origin and the point of consumption in order to meet customers’ requirements. This course
provides a practical, management perspective of the following areas of logistics: distribution, transportation,
international logistics, inventory control, sustainable logistics practices, key performance indicators, supply
chain finance, leadership in a supply chain role, and an introduction to logistics technology including RFID
and ERP systems. The course is designed for students who have had little or no previous coursework or
professional experience in logistics.
Course Objectives:
1. To understand working of logistics principles and to expose students to the language of logistics
2. To apply knowledge of the key activities performed by the logistics function including distribution,
transportation, global logistics and inventory control
3. To analyze logistics as more than an operational function that passively executes a plan, but as a strategic
function that creates value and competitive advantage
4. To evaluate and perform data analysis skills by analyzing and using supply chain data to make business
decisions
Learning Outcomes:
Student will able to;
Understand logistics concepts and current Indian cases on logistics
Apply the concepts, principles and practices of Logistics Management in Indian organizations.
Analyze the application of Logistics Management in various Industrial and Service sectors and develop
the ability to implement in any industry the students take up a job or assignment.

Pedagogy:
The study plan covering readings, classroom sessions, group work sessions and assignments
corresponding to each session are outlined below: It is mandatory to go through the ‘Pre-Session
Readings’ and prepare for case discussions. Quiz or surprise tests would be conducted on the same.
