B. Answer each permutation problem completely. Show your solutions.

1. A teacher wants to assign 4 different tasks to her 4 students. In how many possible ways
can she do it?
• There are 24 possible ways that the teacher can do it.
2. In a certain general assembly, three major prizes are at stake. In how many ways can
the first, second, and third prizes be drawn from a box containing 120 names?
• There are 1,685,040 ways that the first, second, and third prizes be drawn from a box
containing 120 names.
3. How many distinguishable permutations are possible with all the letters of the word
ELLIPSES?
• There are 5,040 distinguishable permutations possible with all the letters of the word
ELLIPSES.
4. Find the number of different ways that a family of 6 can be seated around a circular
table with 6 chairs.
• There are 120 ways that the family can be seated around a circular table.
5. If there are 10 people and only 6 chairs are available, in how many ways can they be
seated?
• There are 151,200 ways that 10 people can be seated at 6 chairs.
6. Find the number of distinguishable permutations of the digits of the number 348 838.
• There are 60 040 distinguishable permutations possible with the digits of the number
348 838.

We can apply this lesson as a inspiration for our every day life. It is true that when
we talk about math, we always thing that it is hard and it is all about numbers. But if we
analyze every lesson, problem, and situation we can say that this subject is our training
ground to solve our problems efficiently.

I realized that …
The lesson that this activity wants us to realize is there are many possibilities in every
problem we face. Yes, there are many possibilities that our problem can be solve but, in every
choice, we make there are always people or things that can be affected. This lesson also
wants us to realize that In every possibility there are risks that affects us. We should embrace
this risk so that we can solve our problem with the possibility we chose.
