Race to the Bases
(Softball)

Players per team: 4 players


Number of teams: 5 teams
Team selection: Students will be able to pick their teams by getting into
groups of 4.

Player Positions: 1 batter, 1 pitcher, 1 field player, 1 catcher


Facility: Outdoor Field, each team will need at least 40X40 sized diamond
Equipment: 3 cones per team (15 cones), 2 hot spots per team (10 hot spots),
1 glove per student (20 gloves), 1 mask & 1 chest protector per team (5 of
each), 1 softie softball per team (5 softies), 1 wooden bat per team (5 bats)

Focus
1. Teamwork
2. Throwing

Outcomes
-SWBAT use communication in order to work together as a team and get the
softball thrown from the outfielder to the catcher when playing in the field.
-SWBAT practice their throwing accuracy by fielding each ball and throwing it
to a teammate aiming for either the pitcher or catcher when playing in the
field.

Rules
-Game will start with one player batting, one player pitching, one player in the
field, & one player catching. (One team per field)
-When the batter hits the ball the players will field the ball and throw it to the
catcher as fast as they can.
-The catcher must place the ball on home plate (hot spot) in order to stop the
play.

-The batter will run around the bases and receive points for every base passed.
Ex: Passed first base before the ball hits home plate or the ball is caught in the
air the player will have 1 point.
-The batter will be allowed 3 pitches to hit the ball.
-No walks allowed
-Batters will not receive points if players catch the ball in the air.
-Rotations = batter → fielder→ pitcher→ catcher → batter
-Game will end when one player has gained 12 points.

Safety
Catcher must have proper equipment on at all times.
Every player must have a glove.
No throwing the bat.

Extension up: Every player will be required to touch the softball before it is
thrown to the catcher

Extension down: Instead of having a catcher there will be 2 field players and a
pitcher. Instead of throwing the ball to home plate the ball must get thrown to
the pitching mound.

Whacky Baseball
(Baseball)

Players per team: 5 players


Number of teams: 4 Teams
Team selection: Teacher will select teams by handing out colored pennies.
Red team, Yellow team, Green team, Blue team.

Player Positions: 1 Pitcher, 1 Batter, 4 Base runners, 4 Fielders


Facility: Outdoor Field split in half
Equipment: 1 tennis ball per team (4 total), 1 whiffle ball bat (4 total), 5 hot
spots per team (20 hot spots total), 1 Cone per team (4 total), 1 penny per
student (20 total)

2. Team Strategies

Outcomes
-SWBAT practice running the bases when they are on the offensive team by
running from base to base as many times as they can before the defense gets
the tennis ball on the cone.
-SWBAT use various strategies in order to field the ball and place it on the
pitchers cone while limiting the number of bases the offensive team earns for
each play.

Rules
-Game will start with 1 batter, 1 pitcher, 4 players on bases, & 4 fielders
-The player will be allowed 3 pitches to hit the ball
-No walks
-Once the player hits the ball the fielders need to strategize and place the ball
on the cone on the pitcher's “mound”

-Players on the bases will run around the bases as many times as they can
before the ball is sitting on the cone.
-Players can not outrun their teammates.
-Each player who makes it to home plate will receive 1 point for their team.
-Once every player on the offensive team has batted the teams will switch.
-Games will be played to 25 points.
-Red team will play yellow team in the first game
-Green team will play blue team in the first game
-Winning teams will stay on the field and play a new opponent.

Safety: Watch the player in front of you when running around the bases in
order to avoid collisions. You can not pass the person in front of you. Wear a
helmet at all times when you are swinging at bat.

Extension down: Players can hit the ball from a T and the pitcher will play in
the field.

Extension up: Each player on the team has to touch the ball before it is placed
on the cone.

F.F.A. Baseball
(Baseball)

Players per team: 5 players


Number of teams: 4 Teams
Team selection: Teams will be split up by competitive players vs competitive
players and non-competitive players vs non-competitive players. Students will
be able to pick which side they would like to go on. Since there is only 5
players per team the teacher will ultimately have the final say.

Player Positions: 1 Pitcher, 1 Batter, 3 fielders


Facility: Outdoor Field
Equipment: 1 tennis ball per team (4 total), 1 whiffle ball bat (4 total), 5 hot
spots per team (20 hot spots total), 1 glove per player (20 total)

Focus
1. Batting
2. Fielding

Outcomes
SWBAT keep track of their own points by hitting the ball and getting as far as
they can on the bases and get more points than the other players during the
game.
SWBAT field the ball efficiently and have an accurate throw in order to make
the play and limit the amount of bases the hitter gains.

Rules
-Game will start with 1 batter, 1 pitcher, and 3 fielders.
-Batter will be allowed 3 attempts at the plate with 4 pitches each.

Ex: In the first attempt if the batter makes it to first base then they will get
another attempt at the plate with 4 pitches etc.
-No walks
-Once the batter hits the ball the fielders will try to make the play.
-If the player makes it to 1st they recieve 1 point...2nd 2 points, 3rd 3 points,
homeplate 4 points.
-Each player plays against everyone else in regards to points
-Once the out is made whatever base that player is on will be the number of
points received.
-The goal of the game is to be the first player to reach 10 points
-Rotation: batter→ fielder→fielder→ fielder→ pitcher

Safety:
Every student in the field must have a glove.

Extension down: First attempt at the plate if you make contact with the ball you
will automatically receive 1 point.

Extension up: 1 point will be taken away for each at bat that you do not get on
base.

YardStick Cricket
(Cricket)

Players per team: 10 players


Number of teams: 2 Teams
Team selection: Students will find a partner and be given a number 1 or 2.
Player 1 will be on the red team. Player 2 will be on the blue team.

Player Positions: 1 Striker/1 Non-Striker (2 batters), 1 Bowler (played by the


teacher), 8 Fielders per team, Batting team will have 2 umpires & the 6 players
left will be spread out along the outside of the field.
Facility: Outdoor Field
Equipment: 1 tennis ball, 20 tennis rackets (1 per student), 20 gloves (1 per
student), 2 catcher's masks, 6 yardsticks, 6 foam squares, 34 cones

Focus
1. Striking
2. Fielding

Outcomes
SWBAT practice striking the tennis ball using the tennis racket by having 4
opportunities to strike the ball and score points for their team when they are
on offense.
SWBAT practice fielding the tennis ball efficiently by either catching the ball or
knocking over the yardstick in order to limit the strikers runs when playing on
defense.

Rules
- Games will begin with 2 strikers in the middle of the field on the pitch which
will be indicated by 4 cones.

-There will be a striker and a non striker
-Teacher will be the bowler. The teacher will give the striker 4 pitches to try to
hit the ball
-No walks
-When the striker makes contact he/she will run to the end of the pitch while
the non-striker runs to the side the striker started on. They will run back and
forth until a play is made. Every time they pass each other 1 point for the
strikers team.
-After the play is made the non-striker becomes the striker and a new player
will sub in and become the non-striker.
-The object of the defense is to either catch the ball in the air for an out or
knock over the wicket (yardstick) that is on the pitch.
-The offensive players will be spread on the outside of the circle and if they
catch a ball or ground a ball then their team will receive 4 total points.
-Once everyone from the offensive team has batted that is one inning. Then the
defensive team will become the batting team and they play until every player
on that team as batted.
-After 2 innings the game is over and then whoever has the most points wins
the game.

Safety
Use a lot of communication in order to strategize and get the ball into the
pitch as fast as possible.

Extension down: Players in the field will only need to throw the ball to the
bowler (teacher) in order for the play to be over.

Extension up: Students will need to pass the ball to at least 3 teammates before
trying to knock over the wicket (yardstick).

Crazy Kickball

Players per team: 5 players


Number of teams: 4 Teams
Team selection: Students will pick a card out of a hat with a number on it
indicating what team they are on.

Player Positions: 1 pitcher, 1 kicker, 4 fielders


Facility: Indoor Gymnasium split in half
Equipment: 1 playground ball per game (2 total), 2 hot spots per field (4
total), 3 cones per game (6 total)

1. Defensive strategies
2. Teamwork

Outcomes
SWBAT use strategies on defense and think critically about where the ball
should go when it is kicked when students are playing in the field.
SWBAT practice positive communication by working together and telling each
other where the ball should be played depending on who receives it in the
field.

Rules
- Game starts with 4 players in the field with 1 pitcher
- 1 kicker will start at home plate
- The pitcher will roll the ball to the kicker who will kick it and run to 1st
base.
- Instead of running to 2nd base after 1st base the kicker will run to 3rd
base then to 2nd base then to home plate.

- Outs include catching the ball, & getting the ball to the base before the
player touches that base.
- There is no hitting players with the ball for an out.
- Kickers will have 2 pitches to kick the ball
- No walks
- There will be 4 outs per inning.
- First team to reach 10 points wins the game.

Safety
Be aware of what base you are running to avoid collisions since you are
running from 1st to 3rd to 2nd to home. You can not throw the ball at a
classmate for an out.

Extension down: Give the offensive team 6 outs per inning in order to try to
score more points.

Extension up: Kicker is only allowed one pitch to get on base. If they are unable
to kick the ball then they are out. If they take a pitch they are out.
