Dreaming Black Boy Notes

The poem expresses the wishes and dreams of a black boy who yearns for basic freedoms and opportunities denied to him due to his race. He wishes for things like being seen and praised by his teacher, having the ability to travel without harassment, and being able to achieve his full intellectual potential without obstacles. Through repetition of "I wish", the poem conveys his desperation for a life without the barriers of racism and oppression.
