Adjective Clause
Adjective clause is a dependent clause which acts as an adjective which
explains the noun or pronoun in the main clause of a complex sentence (a
sentence consisting of an independent clause and one or more dependent
clauses).
Complex Sentence Formulas:
main clause (independent clause) + adjective clause
Adjective clause is formed with a word called a relative pronoun. The relative
pronoun consists of:
who
whom
whose
which
that
indefinite relative pronoun dengan suffix -ever: whoever, whomever, dan
whichever
Apart from a relative pronoun, an adjective clause can also be formed with a
relative adverb. There are three adverbs, i.e.:
where
when
why
Adjective clause with where to explain the noun which states the place, with
when to explain the noun which states the time, and with why to explain the
noun which states the reason.
Adjective Clause Pattern:
relative pronoun +/- S* + V
relative adverb + S + V
Relative pronoun (who, which, that) can function as subject if there is no
subject.
The adjective clause position always follows the noun or pronoun he explains.
The noun or pronoun in the main clause functions as subject, object, or subject
complement.
Situation Adjective Clause Position
Adjective clause explain S + adjective clause + verb +/- object
as subject. +/- modifier
Adjective clause explain as S + verb + object + adjective clause
object.
Adjective clause explain S + linking verb + subject complement
as subject complement. + adjective clause
Function of Relative Pronoun in Adjective Clause
1. Subject
Relative pronoun that can function as subjek include: who, that, and which.

Relative pronoun that can function as object include: whom, that, who,
and which.

3. Possessive
Relative pronoun that can function as possessive is whose.
