What is retailing?
 
This is the most important and vital stage in distribution where the customer comes
to buy the product. .His experience in this stage is very important for  his
satisfaction and reinforcing his buying habit
 
Marketing is identifying and satisfying customer needs and wants
 
This is done thro marketing mix
 
Product, price, promotion and place(distribution)
 
U might hv identified the needs, designed the products,priced appropriately as per
objective and marketing strategy, advertised to create awareness (pull).
 
Then the product has to reach the consumer. He has to buy , get satified and u get
ur money value for the efforts/profit
 
RETAILING is the most important operation in marketing chain, where the
customer comes with an intention to buy , he gets an opportunity to touch and feel
the product and looks for good delivery service.

 Indian scene has gone thro various style of retailing .
Small traders, petty shops,cart vendors,vegetables, platform vendors
 
General merchants,grocershops where they measure , pack and deliver ( to
prepacked merchandise)newspaper distribution, milk vending, flower sellers special
in India due to pooja culture and women wearing in their hair.
 
After 1990. the retailing trend changed to super markets and speciality stores due to
Foreign brands  and players entry ( liberalization,privitisation, globalization)
 
Like ambani created revolution in size of industry KISHORE BIYANI created
revolution in retailing. Pantaloon to big bazzar his philosophy was affordable prices
for common man by buying in large volume .
 
 
In big bazzar customers were able to get bargain deals.

c) availability
 
In the new millinium  the trend moved to E’tailing-online buying of books, cds, train
tickets etc

These are some of the measures the retailer can take to enhance his image.
 
Summing up retailing is most important stage in marketing chain to gain and retain
customers and lot of planning has to go into this with support to retailers by
manufacturers
