Career Goals

I have many aspirations for the future of my career, and there are many things I

would like to learn and become certified in. That is the beauty of being a PTA; there are

so many areas I can venture into and specialize in. However, there are a few goals I

have long wished to achieve but did not feel prepared for prior to completing the Pima

BSPTA program.

In the next two to five years, I anticipate becoming a stronger voice for the

physical therapist assistant. This is not only important for my own career, but for the

profession of assistants nationwide. I will accomplish this goal initially through

involvement in both the Missouri chapter of the American Physical Therapy Association

and the APTA on the national level. I also have a goal of achieving specialist

certification in pediatrics because I have dreams of owning and operating a pediatric

home health agency within the next five years. Lastly, I have long held the goal of

earning my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and am strongly considering applying for

a bridge program within the year.

The BSPTA program has well prepared me for goal attainment. Through this

program I have learned leadership skills that will serve well in becoming a stronger

voice for my profession as well as leading a team of clinicians in the company I plan to

start. I have also learned the skills to treat patients utilizing clinical practice guidelines in

conjunction with evidence-based research to provide the most effective treatment and

best outcomes for each patient. The research and technical writing skills that I have

learned throughout the BSPTA will prove to be beneficial in pursuing my doctorate

degree.
