Summary / Mindmap of the text:
The study of ecocriticism is one of the uses of theory that was first discovered by William Rueckert and developed by Cheryll Glotfelty as the
founder of the U.S. Ecocriticism in which Cheryll brings up something more popular later that combines ecological studies and literary studies.
From the perspective of literary studies, ecocriticism can be classified as a mimetic theory, based on the assumption that literature, with reference
to paradigms, is a reflection of the realities of life that exist today. It needs to be underlined if this theory focuses more on nature in its studies,
not on humans. In simple terms, this theory will find out the concept of natural ecology that is close to human life. In its application, there are
many famous titles that have used the Eco-Crticim theory as a basis for thinking such as The Future of Environmental Criticism by Lawrence
Buell. Walden, or Life in the Woods by Henry David Thoreau. Ecology Without Nature by Timothy Morton.
My Question
1. Is it only the earth that is the center of the study of this theory?
2. Will science later also play a role in literary works that contain ecological values?
3. Are there any special linguistic features in literary works that indicate that it is a work of Eco-Criticism?
My comments (what I think, what I agree, what I disagree):
(5 - 10 sentences)
If we look at this theory we will be brought back to "Natural Science" as the basis of our study later, this theory is quite interesting after the
Post-Colonialism theory, which I agree with in this study is to incorporate ecological elements that are close to humans which make studies
between literature and the environment. I also agree with ecocriticism which is understood by combining aesthetic facts with environment and
literary studies. As I go along, I am more inclined to agree in this theory because the objects under study are quite close to humans.
