MODULE 2 ACTIVITY

NAME: ABBYGAEL C. BAGUIO BSA-3

I. Go online and look for an instance where animal rights and welfare can be
considered an issue. What is the issue that you have identified? Detail your findings
and opinion below.

As I surf in the internet, there are many animals’ right and welfare that have
always been an issue. Animal welfare refers to the relationships people have with
animals and the duty they have to assure that the animals under their care are treated
humanely and responsibly. People should also always remember that animal has
rights and that those rights are equivalent to those of humans. And there are laws that
prohibits slaughtering and laws that aims for the protection of animals.

However, as our population increases, some animals growth also increases but some
animals lives also are now endangered(wild life).

I have read about dogs and cats that are being killed for the purpose of minimizing its
existence and these doing creates an uproar in social media and outrage most of the
animal loving people. For you who love animals would really get mad, but for those
who are victims of an accidents because of dogs that suddenly appear on the roads
probably will not. Notwithstanding, these act was said to be undone because of the
plea of majority.

And there’s a catch, You are angry because of animal slaughtering in Pakistan, but
you didn’t realize that the meat you’re eating are exported from them. You’re in deep
hatred because you are in a situation that you aren’t used to something because your
culture are different from them. Would your plea can stop them? No.

Therefore based on what I have observed and learned, animals are categorize for it’s
usefulness. When that animals are for domestic care then they are that only,They are
prohibited to be our food or anything specifically when your community aren’t used
to eat that animal for food they would find it disgusting and cruel.

On the other hand, when animals like cow, carabao and pigs, it would be okay to
slaughter them because it is accepted and allowed to be for food. It is okay to
experiment them because these are for the improvement or for the sake of majority.

II. In view of Bentham and Mill’s assertion of the greatest happiness of the greatest
number, do you think animal rights and welfare should even be a concern in
Philippines where millions of Filipinos below the poverty threshold are struggling
to have descent lives? Is the concern for animal rights and welfare a first world
problem

For my opinion based on what I have always read on facebook and other social media
platform domestic animal cruelty (particularly on cats and dogs) have always been a
concern in Philippines. Filipinos are naturally have a kind and loving heart for these
animals. For them they are their best companion, their bestfriend and sometimes their
protector from evil person, they sometimes serve as our security guard in our house.
And I often see good people who fed astray animals and these people are those who
often don’t have enough penny to buy a meal for a day. And if you slaughtered them
of course you will feel the wrath of Filipinos.

The concern for animal right and welfare is already a first world problem nowadays.
For every country has different views and ways to treat animals. We have different
culture and some country value human welfare than of animal welfare and maybe
because of various reason that includes poverty.
