Persuasive Speech: Reject Beauty Standards

The document outlines a persuasive speech on ignoring unrealistic beauty standards. It begins by noting that society favors beautiful people and treats them better. This has negatively influenced culture and led to issues like low self-esteem, depression, and beauty bullying. The speech will argue that people should respect themselves for who they are rather than what they look like. Accepting oneself and prioritizing health and happiness over fitting unrealistic standards promoted by media will help visualize a society with less judgment and pressure based on physical appearance alone.

 Hello everyone,

Let’s be frank, we are more drawn to beauty things: beautiful home, beautiful car, beautiful
dress, beautiful face, beautiful hair, beautiful people etc, etc. But Beauty, a simple word used
by millions of people a day. But has anyone taken a moment, stopped, and actually thought of
the authentic meaning of what beauty truly is? What defines beauty? Is it skin colour, weight,
freckles on ones face? Or is it something deeper than that, something that may not involve
physical aspects but rather being able to embrace ones uniqueness. Today in our society,
the media is constantly telling young adults exactly how they should look in order to
be beautiful, they set guidelines such as plump lips, arched eyebrows, flawless skin, and that,
well that’s all bull shit, that is just a way for huge corporations to survive off people who are
gullible or have low self-esteem. They set an image which unfortunately leads teenagers to
become severely infatuated with looking perfect, but if we all looked like that, we would
simply be all clones, and the world… Well it would be a fairly boring place. Plus, we can
already see in our daily life, all the beautiful people will get benefit and the best treatment

idealism were supported with unprofessional Advertisements that portray an over-sexualized

suffering and a variety of psychiatric issues.

This unnecessary stereotype had deteriorate people mental health and body health People
sometime went over the limit by using some dangerous product to get the quick result
without thinking about their side effect. For instances, some Malaysian youngster used the
brilliant skincare which are not approved by KKM as they contain dangerous ingredient such
as mercury and hydroquinone that might affect our body. Eventhough they knew about the
negative effect of this product, they still used and ignore it because they want to be fair and
flawless and fit the mould of beauty standard. People also tend to developed anxiety,
depression as they try to push themselves to be “perfect” according to beauty standard. They
will try everything they can as long as they up to date. Such as they willing to go into debt as
long as they can buy all the branded stuff.

Television or in media social that drive people to follow the beauty stereotype as they

You truly don’t have to be perfect in order to be beautiful. There are many aspects which play
a role such as personality. It may not be seen with the naked eye but the way someone makes
you feel, being loved, being cared for, that is what should be defined as beauty. Situations can
make individuals be perceived as a whole new different person such as effecting
people positively by lending someone a hand, being a good citizen, and participating in
helping the community become a better place

Many people are actually frightened to stand up for what they believe in, but will following
the crowd help you achieve anything in your life? Because it honestly shouldn’t matter what
other people think, it’s what you think of yourself. Following what society believes is
beautiful may have its pros such as fitting in and joining the super popular group at
school, you may not be an outcast but you may end up being a mediocre and losing your
sense of self and individuality.

Unfortunately, you will not be remembered by just “fitting in” with the crowd. A perfect
example in this case would be celebrities; they all try so hard to be different from each other.
Lady gaga, Nicki Minaj they stand out, and that’s why I honestly do believe their so famous,
they are different. Another great example would be Rosa Parks. She was an African
American woman who started a revelation by simply standing up for what she believes
in. Not giving up her seat on the front of the bus was a brave thing to do, although she was
aware of the consequences.

These are the kind of people we should look up to; these are the people that should be
perceived as beautiful in our modern day. This teaches us a great lesson, it teaches us to
overcome obstacles and to not be who everyone else wants you to be such as parents, friends,
maybe even teachers, because at the end of the day it’s not what other people think of a
certain individual, it’s what that person thinks of themselves!

Lastly, I’d like to conclude my speech by reading the quotation which I have
chosen…“Imperfection is beauty, madness is genius, and it’s better to be absolutely
ridiculous than absolutely boring.” By Marilyn Monroe
