The World of Science:: During Rain On A Tree. But An Eagle Protects Itself From The Rain by Going Above The Clouds." So

Science plays an important role in our everyday lives, from producing sound to allowing us to eat, play, and sleep. While learning science may seem boring, it has led to many discoveries through failures and experiments. Chandrayaan 2 taught India 15 new things through its failures. Famous inventor Thomas Edison said he did not fail at creating the lightbulb but rather discovered 10,000 ways that did not work, showing the trial-and-error nature of scientific progress. The story of former Indian president APJ Abdul Kalam taking children to a science exhibition when their father was busy working shows Kalam's support for developing scientific minds in future generations.

The World of Science:

Science never solves a problem without creating ten more. This is the ‘Truth of Science’.

A very warm welcome to the audience seated here. Most of us seated here, think of Science as
nearly boring to learn. Am I right? But it is an amazing fact that everything happening around you
involves Science. Right now, I am speaking to you. It involves science. Sound is produced by the voice
box.

Now, all of you. Close your eyes for a moment and I challenge you to think of a thing that does not
involve science. Can you have food without science? Can you play without science? Can you sleep
without science? These three questions are evidently enough to show how important science is in
our life.

Let us take the instance of Chandrayaan 2. Those 15 terrifying minutes taught Indian Space Industry
15 new things. Let me ask you a small question? How many scientists have failed? That is what I call
a perfectly incorrect answer. None of the scientists have ever failed. None of us have ever failed. No
one’s work in this world has ever become a ‘FAIL’. The word ‘FAIL’ just means

F=First

A=Attempt

I-In

L- Learning

Thomas Alva Edison, the eminent inventor of the light bulb, once said, “I have not failed. I have just
discovered 10,000 ways that do not work.” That is the spirit of Science. Who knows, may be the next
generation might be luckier than us to enjoy the fruits of science? While we think learning about so
many things, is just a waste of time. Very often, I too ponder, “When I become big, who is going to
ask me, what is the chemical formula of salt or what are the reasons for friction?

Well, no one is going to ask you about that? Then, I have a perfect answer about your question.
When you become big, who is going to ask you which computer game you played? Well, knowledge
comes in various aspects.

I will tell you a small anecdote that clearly states the importance of Science. During a hectic project,
one of the 70 scientists working on it asked Dr Kalam if he could leave at 5.30 pm that evening as he
had promised to take his kids to a science exhibition. Rd. Kalam gave him permission. However, the
scientist got busy with work only to realise that it was 8.30 pm. When he looked for his boss, he
wasn't there. Guilty for having disappointed his kids, he went back home only to find that his kids
weren't there. When he asked his wife where they were, she replied, "You don't know? Your
manager came here at 5.15 pm and took the children to the science exhibition. When the worker
asked Kalam next day why he did that, Kalam replied,’ Let the children also develop scientific brains
just like you my friend.” What a great supporter of Science he was? If he had not designed India’s
first rocket, India would never have learned to predict earthquakes.

Thus, these are evident to show us the importance of Science and its impact on the current and the
future generations. APJ Abdul Kalam, the ‘Missile Man of India’ once said, “All birds find shelter
during rain on a tree. But an eagle protects itself from the rain by going above the clouds.” So,
friends let us become that eagle and learn science to become a special individual in the society.
