Adjust the Tracks
Grease and oil are under high pressure.
Grease or oil coming out of the relief valve under pressure can
penetrate the body causing injury or death.
Do not watch the relief valve to see if grease is escaping. Watch the
track or track adjustment cylinder to see if the track is being loosened.
Loosen the relief valve one turn only.
Move the tractor forward and allow it to stop without applying the brake pedal.
Tractor level, all equipment lowered with slight down pressure. Transmission in neutral. Parking Brake
Lock Lever engaged. Engine stopped.
Tracks should be adjusted under the same conditions in which the tractor will be used. If packing conditions
prevail on the job, the tracks should be adjusted with packing present.

NOTICE
Do not attempt to tighten track when dimension (A) is 165 mm (6.5
inches) or more. Contact your Caterpillar dealer for track service or
instructions.
1. Put a tight line between the sprocket and the front idler.
2. Measure the sag distance (B) from the line, to the top of the lowest grouser tip.
Correct adjustment gives a dimension (B) of 140 ± 10 mm (5.5 ± .4 in.).
If Track is Too Loose:
1. Remove the adjusting valve cover plate.

2. Add multipurpose grease (MPG) through the adjusting valve until dimension (B) is correct.
3. Operate the tractor back and forth to equalize the pressure. Allow the tractor to coast to a stop. Do not use
the brakes.
4. Remeasure dimension (B).
If Track is too Tight:
1. Loosen the relief valve one turn only, and allow the grease to escape.
2. Close the relief valve.
3. Add multipurpose grease (MPG) through the adjusting valve until dimension (B) is correct.
4. Reinstall the valve cover plate.

Track Shoe Bolt Torque
The torque requirement for track shoe bolts is 650 ± 70 N·m (480 ± 50 lb ft) plus an extra 1/3 turn (120°) for
both standard shoe bolts and split master link bolts.
