table are to the appropriate section, paragraph, figure, or table in this manual.
2. !nspeetions or operations are to be performed as indicated by a "0" at the 50 or 100 hour inspection
interval. Inspections or operations (i.e. -component overhauls/replacements, etc.) required outside
the 50 / 100 hour eycle are listed as speicial inspections in Paragraph 3no. Inspections must be
accomplished by persons authon.zed by the FAA or appropriate National Aviation Authority. Checks
may be accomplished by a pilot who is qualified on the airplane.
(a) The 50 hour inspection accomplishes preventive maintenance8 lubrication and servieing as
well as inspecting critical components.
(b) The 100 hour inspection is a complete inspection of the airplane, identiJcal to an annual
inspection.
E!Q|E: A LOG BOOK ENTRY SHOULD BE MADE UPON COMPLETION OF ANY INSPECTIONS®
3. Piperservice Bulletins are Of special importance and Piperconsiders compliance mandatory. In all
cases3 s,ee Service Buj!etin/Service Letter Index P/N 762-332 to verify latest revision. See also
paragraph 3-9.
4® Piper Serviice Letters are product improvements an'd service hints p.ertaining to serviicing the
airplane and should be given careful attention.
5. Inspe`ctions given for the pewer plant are based on the engine manufacturer's operators manual
{Continental Part No. X-30583) or (Lycoming Part No. 60297-12) for this airplane. Any changes
issued to the engine manufacturers operat®r's manual supersede or supplement the insp`ections
Outlined in this report. Should fuel otherthan the specified octane rating for the power plant be usejdg
refer to the latest revision of Lycoming Service Letter No. L185 for additional information and
recommended service procedures.
6. Faeplace as required or at engine overhaul. (Refer to latest revision of Hartzell Service Letter 61.)
For engine ovemaul, refer to latest revision of one of the following: Lycoming Service Instructions
No.1009, for recemmendecl engine oveinaul period, or TOM SIL-98-9A, for recomm`ended engine
Overhaul period. a.
7. Check throttle body attaching screws for tightness; the correct torque for these screws is 40 to 50
inch pounds.
8. Rotate spark plugs from upper to lower positions and vice-versa {o lengthen plug service life.
9. Check cylinders for evidence of excessive heat which is indicated by burnt paint ®n the cylinders.
This condition is indicative Of intemal damage to eylinder(s) and, if found, its cause must be
determined and corrected before the aireraft is returned to service. Heavy discoleratien and
appearance Of seepage at ther'eyljnder head barrel attachment area is usually due to emission of
thread !uE)riGant used during asschb!y of the barrel at the factory, or by slight gas leakage which
stops after the cylinder has been in `service for a while. This condition is neither harmful nor
detrimental to engine perfermanc6 anc3 operation. If it can be proven that leakage exceeds these
conditionsS the cylinder must be replaced.
