Sunsilk
Current Description:
Sunsilk is a hair care brand, primarily aimed at women, produced by the Unilever group.
Sunsilk had an advantage over other shampoos in the market as it only needed one application,
and so meant washing less natural oils from the hair. Sunsilk has seven variants of shampoo.
The Sunsilk Pink Smooth and Manageable Shampoo. The pink variant is for smooth,
manageable and strong hair. It also keeps the hair smelling fresh all day. Sunsilk pink formula
co-created with Yuko Yamashita has Argan Oil and Fresh Floral Fragrance to make hair smooth
& fragrant. Next is the Sunsilk Strong and Long Shampoo, it deeply nourishes hair as it grows
because it has a unique aloe vera ingredient to condition hair. It has a biotin ingredient for
ultimately strong and long hair, making Sunsilk the best strong hair shampoo. The violet one is
for Perfect Straight Shampoo, it is for silky straight hair full of bounce. The orange variant is
Sunsilk Damage Reconstruction Shampoo, it makes hair healthy and smooth again after it got
damaged from bleaching or using heat in the hair. It has Max Calcium and Keratin to make hair
healthy and smooth ready for the next adventure. It’s a great natural shampoo that treats
damaged hair. They also release a shampoo natural which is inspired with natural ingredients
like the Sunsilk Naturals Watermelon Freshness. The Sunsilk Naturals Watermelon Freshness
gives your hair freshness and volume. It has an exclusive formula of watermelon and mint that
refreshes and cools your hair, leaving it fresh and volumized all day. The Sunsilk Naturals
Coconut Hydration gives the hair hydration and shine. Their exclusive formula of coconut water
infused with vitamins and minerals cleans your hair gently, leaving it hydrated and shiny. In the
year 2020 Sunsilk released their shampoo inspired with the Sakura also known as cherry
blossoms in Japan. The Sunsilk Naturals Sakura and Raspberry Radiance Shampoo makes
your hair fresh and radiant. It is formulated with Japanese and raspberries to purify hair and
help bring out its natural shine. Its sweet scent also leaves your hair fragrant all day. The
Sunsilk pink, violet, orange and green has a corresponding conditioner.
Proposed Revisions:
The Philippines generates an enormous amount of trash and is the third worst ocean
plastic polluter in the world, according to a 2015 study in the journal Science. The Philippines
generates an estimated 43,684 tons of garbage daily, including 4,609 tons of plastic waste. This
plastic waste includes heaps of shampoos. Instead of the regular packaging of the Sunsilk
Shampoo wherein they put it in a sachets or plastic container we proposed to change the
formulation of the shampoo. Sachets are sold in most developing countries but the number
consumed in the Philippines is staggering - 163 million pieces a day, according to a recent study
by environment group The Global Alliance for Incinerator Alternatives (GAIA). That’s almost 60
billion sachets a year, or enough to cover 130,000 soccer fields. With this in mind the proposed
revision for Sunsilk is the change in his formulation wherein the formulation will not be in liquid
form instead it will be in the form of a small ball first then if the small ball gets wet it will dissolve
then turn into a shampoo. The formulation of the shampoo and the physical appearance will be
similar to bath bombs. In this way the use of plastic will lessen. One of the problems faced in
using sachet shampoo is that once it gets opened the shampoo can be spilled and it can’t be
used one it is spilled. With the small ball as its form, one small ball is equivalent to one usage of
shampoo when taking a bath. When we are getting a shampoo there are times when we get
what we intended to use but with the small ball form of the shampoo we get what is enough for
our hair and we get to avoid spilling and excessive use of shampoo which leads to a waste.
Sunsilk can also use a box as the packaging of the shampoos but it is made up of recycled
paper. Another revision is that Unilever can create a website then the consumers will answer
some questions about their hair and after that sunsilk will suggest a variant of Sunsilk that is
perfect for the consumers hair and can help solve the hair problems of the consumers. In this
way it will be more personalized and the consumer will get the proper treatment for their hair
needs. Unilever can also put an option wherein the consumers can personalize their shampoo
by changing the color and the scent of the sunsilk shampoo.
2. Our group chose to investigate Scheduling and Absenteeism. The computer repair service
has a design capacity of 80 repairs per day and its effective capacity is 64 per day and its actual
output is 62 repairs per day. The number of design capacity and the number of effective
capacity has a wide gap between them then this means that the repair service is not maximizing
the services they can offer. This also means that the scheduling of the repairs is not managed
effectively and the employees are not using their time productively and other employees are
absent from their duty without a good reason. The computer repair service is mainly dependent
on manual labor and the huge gap between the design capacity and the effective capacity is
mainly because of the problem concerning the employees thus it is best to investigate factors
that are concerning employees and that is the scheduling and absenteeism. After investigating
these two and the results are still the same then quality problems should be the next to
investigate and this needs to improve the tools or the machines used by the employees to
increase the effective capacity of the computer repair shop.
